Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World It's been almost three months and I can't believe no one has done a review of this movie here on Mibba. The movie looked so good in commercials but did it look good on screen? With the Blu-Ray and DVD release getting closer I decided to make this for people who haven't seen the movie, but are thinking of buying it on DVD. This is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

Now, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, as a lot of you may know, is a movie based on the popular comic book by Bryan Lee O'Malley. The story is about a 22-year old, lazy man named Scott Pilgrim who is in a band, doesn't care about much, and lives with his gay roommate, Wallace Wells. The story starts off when his friends and bandmates find out that he has started dating a high school girl, Knives Chau. One day Scott dreams about a girl who wore roller blades, one day he actually sees her and he asks her out, that's when the fun starts. It turns out that if Scott wants to go out with this girl, Ramona Flowers, he has to defeat her seven evil exes.

This movie stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Kieran Culkin as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, and Wallace Wells respectively. These are the most notable of the characters because they're so much fun. These characters are full of great lines and great scenes; my favorite scenes happen to be any scenes that involved Wallace Wells. That guy just stole every scene he was in, he ruled and conquered, great actor. Michael Cera did a pretty good performance, he does what he does. Scott is one of those very shy and kind of awkward characters that Michael Cera is just so good at playing. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, well what can I say about her? She's amazing. She's so damn hot, and she's one hell of an actress. Every other performance from this movie was just amazing, everyone from Knives Chau to Kim Pine, and even to the characters that just appeared for a short moment. Putting it plainly: the performances in this movie are simply extraordinary.

The look of this movie is simply beautiful. All the CGI, the action sequences, and the references made in this movie are great. I was already excited for the movie once the Universal Studios logo came out all pixelated. Everything in this movie is drawn from the comic book, everything from the sets to the clothes the characters would wear. The music was all drawn from and inspired from old games, mostly Nintendo 8-bit classics, and they were great and fit the movie completely. Finally everything else is just simply drawn from old 8-bit video games. Whenever Scott would get into a fight the words "FIGHT!" would appear just like it would in a Street Fighter game. The enemies would even turn into coins once he defeated them. What I liked about this story was that Scott wasn't someone who was bullied and had to learn to fight or something, he already knows how to fight, he's already a badass. This means that the movie doesn't drag much.

So, all in all Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has amazing acting, great music, awesome visuals, and the references it uses are great. The plot and story are very good and the characters are just very likable. The only problem I had with the film was that it's ending was different from the comic's ending, but the ending from the movie was good; not as good as the comic's but good nonetheless. I'm a gamer so this movie hit very close to my heart and my soul. Video games and comic fans are sure to like this, but if you're not into this kind of stuff you might not get it or get the same reaction from the references it makes. It's a nerd's must watch but again if that's not your thing then don't expect too much. I give this movie a 10/10, its just plain awesome, it's a shame that it didn't make much money, it's a must buy for the people I had mentioned before.
