Rango

This movie is one of the few animated films that, in my opinion, is not just for children. Johnny Depp brings life to the character Rango and Gore Verbinski brought this wonderful world to us. Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies present a Blind Wink / GK Flims production: Rango.

Story

Rango starts off with the unnamed lizard who has apparently spent his whole life in a glass box with inanimate objects as friends. He interacts with these objects in his desperation for friends and he considers himself an actor. Due to a mishap, the lizard is thrown from the safety of his tank and thrown into a Nevada desert without a clue where he is. There he meets Roadkill, an armadillo who is searching for the Spirit of the West by reaching the "Other Side." The armadillo sends the lizard off to look for a town that is deep in the desert. As the lizard is making his way there he meets an iguana named Beans who drives him into the town of Dirt.

At the town of Dirt, this lizard sees an opportunity to be a new person, to make himself popular so makes an alias: Rango. Rango tells stories of how he's from the West and how he's one of the most rootin' tootin'est cowboys around and how he killed the Jenkins Brothers with just one bullet, which makes him an instant star. Soon another bigger lizard challenges Rango to a shoot off but was interrupted by a hawk which Rango accidentally kills. Because many believed he did it on purpose he is then made the Sheriff of the town and starts off the the adventure as Rango is thrown into more and more problems that will test his cool, ability to lie, act, and to think on his feet.

Presentation

This movie is beautiful, no question about it. This is some of the best CGI to have ever graced the big screen. The characters look great and the environments look even better. There were scenes which I could have thought that they were videos of an actual desert, it's simply beautiful. The town of Dirt has so much life, well at least as much life as a near ghost town can get. Each character had a great design and personality that made me fall in love with all the main characters, characters like Rango, Beans, Doc, and the Raven Indian that I can't remember it's name, they were all great characters.

My favorite thing about the movie is hands down the music. Hans Zimmer did a spectacular job and definitely made me want to buy the soundtrack. The music added the mood for every scene and made the movie feel like an old western. I simply love the music infusion of mariachi with rock, it's great, and the four owls that played some of the tunes were very likable as well.

Final Verdict

This movie is simply amazing, I love it to death. The characters are all lovable, they all have the personality that makes them feel real. The comedy in the movie was great and while it did start off as a kid's movie about ten minutes in it seems to be aimed more towards adults. Children will like the movie, but I did see some who were scared at some of the scenes the movie had. Now the movie is not for everyone, there is a bit of a deep meaning to it and it is a pretty dynamic movie which might not be what people expected. I want to tell you to at least give it a chance, it's a proper western movie with likable characters and a dynamic town. I love this movie and definitely recommend it.

I give it a 9.5/10. It's amazing, it's beautiful, it's Rango, but remember it's not heaven because if it were we'd be eating Pop Tarts with Kim Novak.
