If there is one film coming out this year which is (was) as much awaited as The Avengers, it has to be Rock of Ages. The main attraction for most cinegoers to this film would be Tom Cruise's first role as a non-action, sweet-chick-flick guy since Jerry Maguire. Tom plays the lead singer of a band in the flick. Now that's a never-seen-before character for Mr. Cruise!

This film is a musical and it's an adaptation of a 2006 Broadway musical by the same name by Chris D'Arienzo. The film is basically about a waitress (Julliane Hough - in a reminscent role of hers) and a busboy's (Diego Boneta) love story in the '80s. It also feautures a kiss between Alec Baldwin and Russel Brand.

It sounds like a moviegoers' party with amazing '80s style sets. The 1980s music scene recreated will be one to watch and the film's soundtrack is already a hit, with lead single 'Any Way You Want It' already earning playtime on VH1 and MTV and rising on the charts.

By the looks of it, Rock of Ages is what critics call Oscar material. With what looks like a touching plot and interesting story, it's sure to catch the interests of many. It is going to be one of those very, very few films which both the critics and the public enjoys.

Complete with an ensemble cast of Cruise, Hough, Boneta, British comedian Russel Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blidge and also including the music of Bon Jovi and Guns 'n Roses, the films seems to be nonthing short of a summer firecracker!
