Snow White and the Huntsman: Grimm viewing

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) is a fantasy film directed by Rupert Sanders and based on the fairytale "Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm. It stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.

I didn't have many expectations for this movie, and I wasn't proved wrong. It stuck to the basic Snow White plot, locked in a tower by an evil stepmother, becomes a beautiful young woman, escapes, falls into a deep sleep and is woken by her true love. It was quite uninspiring and I had been hoping that they would alter the plot in some way to make it original, but they did not, the only change made was the addition of the huntsman.

I'd heard good reviews about this movie, and hoped it might be redeemed by Charlize Theron, however, I was sourly disappointed.

There was poor acting in general in this movie, in my opinion, roles were cast because of names and not actual acting abilities. You were easily distracted by the stunning special effects in the movie, but this cannot fully make up for a pitiful plot and cast.

I feel Kristen Stewart was a bad choice for the role of Snow White. I find her quite souless as an actress and I do not think she deserves as much attention as she gets. I feel the actress Lucy Hale would have been much more fitting to the part.

Apparently there is a sequel in production, but I don't know how that's going to turn out because this particular director seems to have problems with originality.

Overall, I would not recommend that you see this film, and I found the other version of this fairytale released this year, Mirror Mirror, a much more enjoyable viewing experience.
