Your review was fair enough though I think you could've summarised the synopsis a bit more to leave more room for you to actually review. As for the movie...
I was a bit disappointed. The setting and animation was beautiful, there is no doubt about that, however I thought the whole rebellious princess cliche and the mother-daughter relationship could've been executed better. I felt like Merida came across as whiny at times and her relationship with Elinor just seemed to suddenly become "perfect" without much depth. Also, the plot was just too obvious, like a puzzle with only two pieces. And what happened to the witch at the end? Tie up your loose ends, Pixar.
I feel so pessimistic about this movie, but I was unfortunately let down. I'd watch it just for the animation
I have to respectfully disagree with most of what you said. While I do agree that the plot was a bit cliche and obvious as to what was going to happen, I don't think Merida and Elinor's relationship "suddenly became perfect" in any way. I feel like when people say things like that, they've missed the depth to this movie, because there is depth. But it's unspoken, it's not done through dialogue. Throughout the entire movie, Merida and Elinor's relationship was slowly changing. Their relationship started off bitter and unconnected but as the movie went along, Merida and Elinor were able to connect with one another as they saw the different sides each of them had. It wasn't done through the dialogue, it was done through the expressions and actions of the characters. I think a lot of people missed that, so I disagree a lot that the change was sudden because I don't think it was at all.
As for the witch, I don't think she had much to do with the main story at all, but rather was a simple supporting character to get the plot going. A lot of supporting characters never have their "loose ends" tied up. However, there is a short on the DVD (I don't know if you've seen it) called the "Legend of Mor'du". The narrator is the witch who is talking to one of Merida's suitors, so that makes me think that the witch does come back to her home eventually or finds a new home near her old one. It sort of ties up a loose end though, in my opinion, the witch is just a supporting character used to push the plot along.
I don't know, I fell in love with the movie because I have felt such a strong connection to it. I see a lot of myself in Merida and I see a lot of my relationship with my own mother in Merida's and Elinor's. It was nice seeing a good mother/daughter movie come from Disney considering most Disney mother's are either dead or evil.
I respect your opinion but I entirely disagree with it. Thank you for the criticism though, I have a problem with over-talking, I'm trying to work on it. ^^
