Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko "Twenty-eight days, six hours, forty-two minutes, twelve seconds. That is when the world will end..."

The first lines of the bone chilling movie really get underneath the skin, and let audiences of all sorts (though recommended for teenagers) get glued to the screen.

It starts out with Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a "troubled" teen, in the town of Middlesex, Iowa. Throughout the movie, he's fighting back and forth with his older sister Elizabeth (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and dealing with his younger sister Samantha's (Daveigh Chase) curiosity using his constant sarcasm, logic, and somewhat "inappropriate" humor.

As the movie progresses you watch this young boy fall victim to the one thing humans fear the most: themselves. Getting trapped in his own mind by Frank, a demonic rabbit, and realizing that he must save the world from danger using a Time Travel Theory written by his crazy neighbor "Grandma Death" (Patience Cleveland) and the help of his friends Sean and Seth, his girlfriend Gretchen (Jena Malone), the advice of his two teachers (Drew Barrymore and Noah Wyle), and the "hypnotic" efforts of his therapist Dr Thurman (Katharine Ross).

While watching Donnie's life progress over the last twenty-eight days, six hours, forty-two minutes and twelve seconds of Earth, you fall victim to your one mind, and truly start to think and value your time. Through this 2001 movie, though confusing, will leave a mark on your life forever.

And as the last countdown is made, one statement leaves you in utter shock at the very end.

"Every living creature in this world dies alone..."

But is it true, and if so, can we change that in our own choices?
