As I entered the theatre on my way to see Ted, I had high hopes. The advertising campaign for this movie portrayed it in a very positive light and I was excited to watch it. I have to admit I was slightly let down, but still enjoyed the movie.
Ted follows a simple, relatively cliché plot. A young boy gets a teddy bear for Christmas, and wishes upon a falling star for it to come to life. His wish is granted, and the bear becomes animate. His parents are shocked, as are the rest of the world, and the bear becomes a global celebrity for a short while. Despite his fame, he never forgets John (Wahlberg), his owner, and they stay best friends. This movie follows John and Ted when they are both middle-aged and still best friends, but Ted is getting in the way of John’s love life.
The jokes in this movie were relatively good, and I did laugh a lot while watching it. However, at some points, I think the jokes were taken too far, and could have offended people if they were taken too seriously.
Overall, though, this was a good film. It was well cast, with an outstanding performance by Wahlberg showing us that he still has an edge. I feel this will be the movie of the summer, so I would recommend that you see it.
I would rate this movie 6/10.
