Children of the Hunt

Children of the Hunt is an action movie that was released in 2009. Not to be confused with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer book of the same name, the movie is set many years in the future, in an overpopulated world. To deal with the overpopulation, laws are set in place to allow the hunting of people referred to as the unwanted, essentially criminals and the poor. For a hefty fee, people can pay the Brotherhood of Mars group to hunt the unwanted legally.

At first glance, the movie appears to be a parody of The Hunger Games. The movie’s tagline is “Let the games begin”, and the movie poster even has a photo of a girl shooting an arrow. However, the plot is a far cry from the best-selling book series. Instead, this film follows Morgan Farber, a former guard for the Brotherhood of Mars, when he is thrown into the hunt himself.

The filming quality is fairly poor. It depicts a production company on a fairly low budget with a lot to lose. As far as B-movies go, it is not the worst I’ve seen, but it could be better. The acting got progressively better as the movie went on. The characters seen in the beginning of the film were reminiscent of a poorly executed high school play. The main character, played by David Stevens, was definitely the best actor in the group, and was the only actor worth noting. This isn’t a film I would recommend, unless you are a fan of B-list movies.
