The Sorcerer's Apprentice

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice stars Nicolas Cage as Balthazar, a powerful and old sorcerer who is searching for the successor of Merlin, yet another strong sorcerer. His aim is to find this person, train them to be a sorcerer, and then defeat the evil sorceress Morgana before she raises dead evil sorcerers and wreaks havoc on the world. Add some romance in as well, and you’ve got what may sound like a bit of a cliché plot. However, you’ll find that when watching the movie you’re too busy enjoying it to notice anything cliché about it.

Despite a bit of a slow introduction, the movie contains a lot of action and spots of humour throughout. It’s kept interesting and fast-paced, which I really liked. Even if you’re someone who doesn’t particularly like magic, you can still enjoy the movie because of the science element that was used. Whenever their magic is explained, it’s related to science and logic, and that makes things more believable.

Because of the actors and actresses, it’s very easy to love and cheer on the good characters, and despise the bad guys. I think everyone did a respectable job, and I enjoyed Cage’s performance the most. Balthazar was the most convincing and likeable character in my opinion.

Even if magic and kind of cliché plots isn’t your cup of tea, I still think you should give The Sorcerer’s Apprentice a try. They’re not my cup of tea, but I didn’t hesitate to recommend the movie to a friend and re-watch it with them. Not the best movie ever, but definitely a fun one to watch.
