Assassins

Sylvester Stallone stars as Robert Rath, a tired assassin who wants to leave his past behind. During what is supposed to be Rath’s last hit the younger assassin Miguel Bain, played by Antonio Banderas, shoots first and takes claim of the money. This sets the movie up for an exhilarating ride that leaves the viewer questioning whether or not good or evil, and old or new, will prevail.

The first thing to note about this movie is that it was made in 1995, but don’t let that deter you. Despite some moments that one might find laughable now that technology has progressed, it doesn’t take anything away from the film.

Both Stallone and Banderas give a wonderful performance, both convincing and captivating in their roles as opposites. Julianne Moore plays the leading lady Electra, and thankfully doesn’t play a cliché damsel in distress. Smart and constantly providing help, she fares well against the assassins.

The movie is filled with action and is sure to please as you’re always wondering what will happen next. There isn’t a single dull moment, and the ending is full of many surprises. I have watched the movie twice now and don’t hesitate to recommend it to others. It’s got the right mix of action, suspense, and interesting scenes, so it makes for a perfect night in for anyone.
