Thor: The Dark World

Anyone who is a fan of The Avengers or the Marvel universe has been awaiting this movie for a while. We get to see another Avenger in the aftermath of the incident at New York, meet a new villain, and get to catch up with some other characters such as Jane Foster. But, is it anywhere near as good as what we’ve hyped it up to be?

The movie begins off slowly, and gets to the point when you begin to wonder if the expected action scenes are going to happen at all. However, as soon as a certain event happens (I won’t spoil it!), things only intensify and the movie suddenly becomes more entertaining. Like all Marvel movies, the story isn’t without plot holes and a few moments of confusion, but that can be easily overlooked. The final battle scene also feels like a bit of a let-down, but there are plenty of other fight scenes for the viewer to enjoy.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, sliding perfectly into the role and being a hero who is easy to root for. Christopher Eccleston gives a great performance as the supervillain Malekith, and I personally found the dark elves aspect of the movie rather interesting. As expected, Tom Hiddleston stole the spotlight as the mischievous Loki, being the source of the majority of the jokes and having a captivating story to tell.

Despite not being perfect, the story is easy to follow and the movie will definitely please anyone superhero fan that watches it. If you’re looking for an entertaining movie with action and humour, then this is a good choice. All in all, Thor: The Dark World is a better film than Thor, is easy to enjoy, but is not the best movie from Marvel.
