Elysium

Elysium is a dystopian science fiction film that was developed and released in 2013. The setting is not only on a poverty striken, dying Earth, but also a beautiful and luxoriously made space habitat called Elysium where only the rich and wealthy wander. Based all off of political controvery's and the desperate fight between the lower class (Earth inhabitants) facing off with the upper class (Elysian's).

Plot

Only two types of people live in the year of 2154: the rich and the poor. The gap between them is seen in both different habitats. While Elysium resides in space with a gorgeous, bird's eye view of luxury and space, Earth is striken with overpopulation, serious medical issues that continue to kill dozens by the handful, and a loss of government. People on Earth were left in the 21st century to fend for themselves as it became nothing but a man eat man issue, exploding into a riot which now struck the middle and lower class immensely.

Max De Costa is serving his time as a parolee for previous car theft while living in the ruins of L.A. After an accident at an assembly line, he's exposed to extreme radiation that has started his death clock to begin ticking. Of course, Elysium is known to have contraptions known as Med-Bay's which, when upon entering, a person is clear of all disease, cancer, sickness and even death.

With no possible way for the poor to reach Elysium, Max heads to a close ally who he's worked with, Spider, known for his smuggling skills. After a heated confrontation, Spider goes to lay down the bases of his plan. Since Max had worked for a high-raised company that was run by the CEO company manager belonging to Elysium, their plan was to kidnap him and extract sensitive data out of his brain.

But of course, after failing the mission, Max finds himself doing much more than just saving his own life, but the life of every individual rotting away on Earth.

Overall

Elysium was a movie that I had been dying to watch since its release. I didn't expect it to be much like this though. I was expecting more action and got my dose by the end. I really liked the makeup of Max who was played by Matt Damon and Secretary Delacourt who was taken by Jodie Foster.

I adored the emotion in this movie. With brutal robot police's that are clinging to the streets of poverty striken Earth, harassing people and really stepping over their boundaries in discipline, I was very happy in seeking the genuine emotion played by Max.

After falling into a confrontation with two police officials, beaten horrifically for just a simple joke that was used against them, he was sent back to see his parole officer which, surprise, was just another robot. The frustration of not having human-to-human interaction in this movie was spot on and I felt as if this was filled with symbolism on how our Earth would befall this horrific transition; a division between rich and poor with nothing on the inbetween.

Although the movie wasn't perfect it was hinted with great actors and a wonderful plotline.
