Flyboys

Flyboys was released on September 22, 2006 and is an American war drama set in World War I.

Plot

Following the enlistment of young men applying to fight against the Germans, the story bases itself off the group, Lafayette Escadrille, the 124th squadron formed by the French in 1916. The men in the group itself go through the hardships of war as a whole and losing friends they've created along the way. This squadron consisted of 5 French officers and 38 American volunteers before the U.S was later declared to join in the war as a whole.

Blaine Rawlings (James Franco), is one of the men who join the Lafayette Escadrille and manage to find it hard to establish a close bond with his comrades. Facing loss and realizing that the beings around him continue to live life to the fullest, Rawlings is taught to buck up and find courage and respect for deceased comrades as well as to avenge them in the skies.

Starting with no knowledge to knowledge of nearly every aspect of war and planes, Rawlings and the remaining individuals of the Escadrille basically are taught to bring hell to the Germans and to fight for the freedom of their people as well as the French.

Overall

This is one of my favorite movies and I was reminded by it just the other night when I had stayed up till 3 in the morning watching it. From start to finish, I don't think this movie could be any better. Of course, this is based off of true events, not the whole thing. While I do appreciate the depth of emotion, love, and loss as a whole, I will be honest in saying that it was a slow start.

James Franco as well as his co-star, Martin Henderson, had done a fantastic job in recreating this scene of angst and war as a whole. The way each individual had learned and experienced growth through hardships as a unit was raw and I absolutely adored it.
