13 Sins

What would you do for a million dollars? Now, how about six million? 13 Sins, a psychological thriller featuring the talents of Mark Webber and Ron Perlman, shows firsthand how money can change a person for the worst.

Plot

13 Sins revolves around Elliot Brindle (Mark Webber), a timid, down-on-his-luck man who’s just lost his job and is left with no way to support his pregnant fiancĂ©e, abusive father, and disabled brother. He also happens to be willing to do whatever it takes to bring back the financial support he’s lost. That’s why, when a mysterious phone call lets him know that he’s been entered into a game show consisting of 13 challenges and ending in large sums of cash prizes, he realizes that he can’t possibly refuse.

At first, the challenges are simple and harmless—killing a pesky fly, for example. The rules are just as easy to follow: complete each challenge in the given amount of time, don't interfere with the game, and don't make anyone aware of the fact that you're playing the game. In due time, though, the challenges become daring and unsettling enough to get law inforcements involved. With the charges against him rising by the minute, Elliot is made aware of the fact that there’s another player in the game. It’s then that he also learns that if he doesn’t complete his last few challenges by the time his opponent does, he’ll lose all of the cash he’s made as well as spend over twenty years in jail.

As more is revealed about his opponent and his last few challenges, will Elliot be able to face the shame and guilt that comes along with his cash prize, or will he crack under the pressure?

Overall

This movie started out as being something that I’d just put on to fall asleep to, but within minutes, my attention was grabbed too heavily for me to even consider closing my eyes. The character development Elliot goes through is paced appropriately from start to finish, and as the challenges become more and more insane, a person can’t help but sit on the edge of their seat and wonder what’s going to happen next.

There’s honestly not much I can critique about this movie, especially when considering the fact that it’s low-budget. Even then, it still didn't fail to deliver excellently. If you're looking for something to watch that can really get under your skin, 13 Sins is definitely for you.

You can find 13 Sins where movies are sold or by simply logging onto a Netflix account. Just remember: the next time you get an unknown call on your phone... be sure not to answer it.
