Homefront

Homefront is an American action thriller that was released in 2013 and based upon Chuck Logan’s novel which was then adapted into a screenplay by Sylvester Stallone. Homefront stars Jason Statham, James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth.

Plot

Agent Phil Broker (Jason Statham) goes undercover to bust a biker gang that produces and sells crystal meth. When the stealth mission goes wrong and Phil Broker is revealed to the leader, a small chase and a few bullets end the life of Danny T’s son Jojo. With much mental disturbance at such an event, Broker quits his job and two years later, moves to a small town with his daughter Maddy (Izabela Vidovic).

Trying to deal with the loss of her mother and the effects of moving to the countryside in which everyone seems to be old school, Maddy finds herself in a small altercation at school. Being bullied by a special needs child, Teddy, Maddy coincidentally throws the first punch and ends up causing an uproar. Cassie and Jimmy, parents of the rambunctious child, are a handful for Broker to deal with. While this is going on, student counselor Susan warns the newcomer to keep attention away from him as the people in this small town are known to hold grudges and take their family feuds a bit too far.

In the meantime, drug dealer Gator Bodine (James Franco) who happens to be Cassie’s brother goes home to find his sister asking him for a favor. In order to keep her pride intact, she wishes for Gator to “scare” Broker into submission, but that can only go right for so long.

Overall

Anything with Jason Statham in it is automatically my favorite. I love him as an actor and seeing him in action movies much like this with a developing plot is wonderful. His character as Phil Broker is a very cautious yet prideful type of man, yet re-settling in a place where danger seems to lurk, he pushes that pride away to protect his daughter. Of course, when his past comes up to bite him, the whole situation changes as it now becomes a chance for survival.

Altogether, I do think this was a great story and movie aside a few annoying characters who I’d rather see dead than in cuffs and a few plot twists, I really loved this. Especially when seeing cruel Cassie trying to protect Maddy at the end from her brother. I really thought character development was key and Cassie ended up being one of my favorites.
