    @ sassenach.
Part of my just hated that (SPOILERS AHEAD) they killed off Future Spock (SPOILERS DONE) so soon. Also that, in Into Darkness, Kirk died, only to be brought back to life pretty much immediately after. Not to mention that how could a Federation officer build a military-based ship without anyone in the Gov finding out about it? Or questioning it? There are a few pointless narrative decisions and plot holes that I didn't see very much of in the third movie.

I understand what you mean with the narrative of the second movie. I too thought it was poorly done, plus I am not much of a sucker for Benedict Cumberbatch who others seem to swoon over. Though I saw it in theaters and have to say movies are experienced differently on the big screen. I didn't think it was bad because of the narrative, but it was a less enjoyable for sure.

(This comment is old but imma reply anyway)

I watched like half of the first movie. Then my boyfriend took me to see this one and I loved it! I thought it was really good. There weren't any useless narrative tools writing-wise, and the acting was good, the storylines tied up well.

I didn't like the second movie much though. I thought the narrative devices were thrown in at the end sort of like a Deus Ex Machina (though less so) and it was just really poor.

(Also, I don't know what it is, but I can't stand the character Bones. I just don't like him, I think it's the actor's characterization).

i was never really a fan of star trek (movies) bc i felt like they could've done so much more overall. + i nitpick every little detail so perhaps that's somewhat hindered me from watching the one's after the first one. of course, i kept for the sole purpose of chris pine bc hubba hubba.

while i still am very iffy on seeing this, i may rewatch the first one & the ones that followed. my friend - just as picky as myself - actually found himself enjoying this in theaters so i may try it out! wonderful article!! you may have just won yourself a first buyer. & i'll let you know if i invest in the movie whether now or later when it comes out on dvd
