I understand what you mean with the narrative of the second movie. I too thought it was poorly done, plus I am not much of a sucker for Benedict Cumberbatch who others seem to swoon over. Though I saw it in theaters and have to say movies are experienced differently on the big screen. I didn't think it was bad because of the narrative, but it was a less enjoyable for sure.
Part of my just hated that (SPOILERS AHEAD) they killed off Future Spock (SPOILERS DONE) so soon. Also that, in Into Darkness, Kirk died, only to be brought back to life pretty much immediately after. Not to mention that how could a Federation officer build a military-based ship without anyone in the Gov finding out about it? Or questioning it? There are a few pointless narrative decisions and plot holes that I didn't see very much of in the third movie.
