1 Litre Of Tears 1 Litre Of Tears is a Japanese drama which will give you a new value of life. The drama is about a 15 year old girl Aya Ikeuchi who is diagnosed with spinocerebellar ataxia which is an illness where the nerve cells of areas necessary for the human body to move and balance disappears, which means one will lose control over your own body. The illness is incurable. The disease will slowly affect her life as her disease develops for the worse.

Aya ikeuchi (Erika Sawajiri) is a happy normal teenage girl who is looking forward for her future. Just a normal day for Aya when she is about to leave her home as for her new semester she starts running and suddenly falls on the ground unable to protect herself with her arms she lands on the hard ground. Her mother (Yakushimaru Hiroko) starts to suspect something is wrong. She takes Aya to the doctor for a check up and there it is revealed Aya's fateful disease. With the support of her family, friends and her lover Haruto Asou (Ryo Nishikido) she never gave up on life.

The drama is based on a real life struggler Aya Kito a 15 year old girl who did suffer from spinocerebellar ataxia. The script is based on her diary which she wrote in as long as she could hold a pen. Aya did live with her disease until her death at 25. The diary she wrote in was entitled "1 litre of tears" and was published as a book after her death the book sold over 1.1 million in Japan. Her story has encouraged many around the world with her courage and positive attitude and not giving up on life when suffering from such cruel illness. Aya truly wanted to 'live' and her only message was "just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing".
