The Vampire Diaries: Too Modified ? - Comments

• My favourite show right now. When I originally watched the first episode, I was initially dismissive of it because it was reminiscent of Twilight, but I didn't watch the whole episode the first time, so I never met Damon. The second time I watched it, I watched it from where I stopped and met Damon. If it wasn't for Damon, I would have abandoned the show from early on. At first, I was a hardcore Delena shipper, but now, I am ALL about Klaroline!

But in regards to the article, I prefer the show a lot more. Elena in the books is just weird to me, idk ~

• I never gave the show a chance because I saw how different they were from each other. I watched one episode the other day and I was sitting there thinking how wrong the show was compared to the books. That just happens to be one of my pet peeves is books and shows/movies differing drastically.

• I totally agree with you
The books are totally different from the tv show but i think both are good versions and i treat them differently :)

• I watched a couple episodes during the first season with my younger sister I couldn't watch it after awhile. The tv series is way different then the books. I love the books so much more then the series. The series is to modified and I didn't picture the characters at all of how they have them except for Damon and then they left characters out as well.

• I loved the show. I even got my mother hooked on to it and believe me, that's a big compliment to its producers.

Obviously, the Elena in the show is so much more bearable than the one in the books. She's got depth, though sometimes loses herself completely down that dark Mary Sue road. Stefan was a dissapointment. Huge one. He was slightly more alive and intruiging in the books, but the show just made him out to be a cardboard character.

And Damon. Though there isn't much of a character difference so as to speak, the show just blew in just an irrisistible personality into him! Somerhalder's simply amazing! So is the story. I really couldn't sit through that whole kitsinu or whatever those Japanese monsters are supposed to be, in the later books. The plot was so cliched. The show made me actually sit down and not get up till it ended.

Btw, good review!

• I think the show is better than the books. When I found out the show is based on the books, I went and check out the first four books. I don't like the book, the writing is choppy and the storyline is cheesy. Especially some of the characters' names. The show has more action and a better plot; i prefer the show any day over the books.

• The TV show in my opinion is far greater than the books. When I first heard that a vampire based show will be premiering based on books, I've decided that it is a must to read the books. The books were easy to read and induced interest, however the first season of the vampire diaries was far more interesting and captivating. As the second season progressed I fell even deeper in love with the show and now currently waiting impatiently for the show to return in mid - January, loving the chemistry that is growing between characters beside Stephen and Elena. Everyone now seems to find their love interest and no one is left in the dust. I definelty recomend anyone to watch the series!

• This show seems pointless to me, I've tried watching it. I just get sick of vampires that won't die and can go out during the day.

• Marie3 The keywords are based off, which as I'm sure you know, doesn't mean it's supposed to be identical to the books, because it's just based off of them.

Anyway! I absolutely adore this show, and I'm waiting eagerly for season 2 next month. It's been a long wait, I'm a bit stir-crazy.

• I personally like both the TV show and the books. The TV show is good for a TV show and the books are good for books. Yes, there are differences, but what we need to realize is that this isn't a book being made into a movie; it's a book being made into a TV show. A movie lasts two hours. A TV show is made into anywhere from 20-25 hours, for multiple seasons. Yes, you can most definitely stick to the books for the majority of the first season or so, but eventually, you have to start adding more to it. I thought they did that extremely well. Admittedly, I did not read the books until after the TV show, but again; I like both. There are some changes I prefer and others I don't. And admittedly, as the season went on, the show became much, much better, all around. The acting became better, the plot became more suspenseful, and the season finale was absolutely fantastic.

• i havent read the books and i just recently started watching the tv show. and i really like the show!!! i hate though that everyone says they coppied twilight!!! twilight is like a pain in the butt now! i like the books but ppl go way over board with that crap! I think elena likes both Damon and Stephen! she likes the bad boy in Damon but also loves the kind and caring Stephen! but in the end she perfers kind and caring!

• i like the books better. Whats the point of making a tv show (based off a book) if they basically jus changed the whole thing.
this is the same reason y i didnt like the twilight movie(went off topic i know)

• I prefer the books much more over the show, but I've read all L.J. Smith books and find her writings wonderful. I couldn't handle watching the show. Not because it was different, but because the acting really isn't all that great. I think a lot of the people saying they don't like the books didn't read them until after they watched the show. =/ I LOVE True Blood though. lol

• I disliked the books. I found them kind of shallow and Elena was just annoying.

I liked what they did with the show I agree with Flo if they had gone more by the storyline the show probably wouldn't be that popular.

• I guess that it's the first time that I like the show/movie better than the books. For me the books were hard to read there was too much 'oh my gosh stefan!' and it seemed like badly written romance books or fan-fiction ;/ I forced myself through the books to be honest. I'm happy the show looks like it does because it's more real. I doubt it could be as popular if it stayed just like the books. I know that many will disagree about this with me, but that's just how I see it. The tv series seem to be just much more real, not so cliche and 'dramatic' like the books makes it sound.

• I can't watch the tv show. I have tried countless times. It's not the same as the book. I seriously wanted to kill me tv when I saw all the differences between the book and the show. They ruined an amazing book by making the show shit. I love the books so much better and I think that people should read them dispite the tv show. But that is just my opinion.

• I tried watching the TV Show, but I can't manage to watch even half an episode without finding at least ten differences between the books and having to turn it off. If they had named the show something else and changed the character names it would have been a great TV series, but it just doesn't stand up to the book series and shouldn't try to.
