The Line Of Beauty

The Line Of Beauty The Line of Beauty, originally a novel written by Alan Hollinghurst, has been adapted to a 3 part mini series by Andrew Davies, who is known for his adaptations of other novels, such as Pride and Prejudice and Vanity Fair.

The Line of Beauty is set in the 1980's. It is the story that revolves around Nick Guest (played by Dan Stevens), an intelligent and hansom middle-class boy who finds himself surrounded in a world full of beautiful people and things that seduce him. Living with the wealthy Fedden family, he gains confidence and self-assurance, guaranteeing him a place in a world of privilege.
He is quick to fall in love, but finds that the men he loves are not quite what he expected, taking him for granted or just breaking his heart.

Nicks homosexuality is only just barely tolerated by his hosts, with their bi-polar daughter Cat (played by Hayley Attwell) being the only one who accepts him. Nick forms a close bond to the woman, treats her like a sister and is impressed with her sexual antics.

The Line of Beauty focuses on certain, rather touchy themes, such as homosexual relationships, homophobia, self harm, social class and drug use. It deals very well and is very realistic, in the sense that you feel and you know that this was how it was.

The Line of Beauty is a graphic and powerful body of work, reflecting upon the times and lives of so many misunderstood situations.
