Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied was originally a Japanese manga series with 107 chapters bound together over the course of twelve volumes. It is also a thirteen episode television series that aired on the twenty fifth of July to the seventeenth of October in 2004.

Plot

The setting takes place in Kamakura, Japan and hones in on a new race of mutant called Diclonius. These beings are simliar to humans as they take on the overall shape of a being, yet differ with two horns on the tops of their heads as well as telepathical powers.

The main character, a Diclonius herself by the name of Lucy, escapes that of an underground facility that was built for experimentation upon these mutants only to be severly injured in the process of it. When awakening and seeing to the outside world, Lucy, taking on the name of Nyu, suffers from excruciating amnesia and remembers certain things and who she is there trigger events.

Overall

Elfen Lied is one of my favorites and though it can be a little hard to follow, it's worth the watch.

I finished this anime about two years ago and I would gladly rewatch it any day. The structure of the characters is one of my favorites to see and the suspense and cliffhangers in each episode left me wanting more.

Though the characters, as well as Lucy, can get annoying, the action is sure to make up for that. I would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Higurashi or Death Note.
