Cybersix

Cybersix is a 1999 Canadian animated TV series about a genetically altered woman, the titular character, fighting monsters made by her creator while posing as a male high school Literature teacher during the day. Spanning across thirteen episodes, Cybersix will take you on a short-lived adventure full of adventure, danger, and lots of emotions.

Differences Between the Comics and TV Series

The comic series much darker and more provocative then the cartoon series, what with Cybersix taking her "sustenance" from her fellow creations in a vampire fashion in the comics opposed to just drinking from strange vials in the cartoon. There was also a live action series that features more or less the same themes as the comic and wasn't nearly as toned down as the cartoon adaptation, but it's only available in Argentina.

Story

The titular character, Cybesix, teaches at a local high school, posing as a male literature teacher, during the school, but her rela ambition is to find destroy her creator, Von Reichtor. During her adventures, she deals with what it means to be human, learning about friendship, and her ever conflicting feelings towards her romantic interest, Lucas Amato.

Characters

Cybersix/Adrian Seidelman - As the titular character, Cybersix is a genetically altered superhero trying to protect Meridiana City from her fellow creations, but as Adrian Seidelman, she is a normal, mild mannered Literature teacher who takes his teaching job seriously.

Lucas Amato - A science teacher with both muscles and brawn. He has a great sense of humor and can be found hanging out at a local cafe, enjoying the foods there but when push comes to shove, he'll be the first to jump into the fray to protect those in trouble. If only he had gotten enough brains to see that the woman he loves and his best friend are the same people.

Data 7 - Cybersix's brother who's brain was placed into the body of a panther after a near fatal accident sometime prior to the series. Despite being a panther, Data 7 is still quite human like personality wise and he is always ready to help his sister wherever she needs it. He's always seen hanging around the cheerfully mischievous orphan, Julian.

Julian - An orphan that Adrian and Lucas meets on the street. Originally a pickpocket, Julian becomes a comedy relief for the series after being saved by Cybersix and Data 7. He becomes really close with Data 7 seeing as he's always seen with the aforementioned panther. Despite meaning well to try and help Cybersix, he often bungles up his attempts at fighting alongside her and ends up needing rescuing.

Lori Anderson - A rough and tumble girl and a student in Adrian Seidelman's class. Despite her sassy personality, she has a kinder, more romantically inclined side that is often shown when she tries to give Adrian love notes. She is often found daydreaming about Cybersix's male persona, which includes him quoting poetry at her over a cup of tea.

Review

Despite the animation being a bit different than what I'm used to, this is actually a great series. Each episode may seem a bit rush and can be a bit confusing to keep up with, but you can still enjoy the series as a whole and no knowledge of the original comics is need either since this cartoon does fine on its own. The only drawback I can find is that more episodes weren't made for the fans to enjoy. But still, the characters were enjoyable and the struggle between good and evil is present along with a small hint of a love story and that is all you need to enjoy the series as a whole.
