While here, he meets a young girl who is a new widow and saves her from death, the pair soon becoming close as friends while their feelings for one another continue to grow. In the end, the young girl Min-Joon's become fond of gives her life to protect him and dies, leaving Min-Joon to never want to become close to another person again.

In modern day Seoul, Min-Joon is alive and well as he continues to wait for his time to return home. During his four centuries on Earth, Min-Joon has been creating new personas for himself every ten years as he never ages and has a friend who helps him, Jang Young-Mok. Dr. Jang, who is a lawyer, has been creating death certificates for Min-Joon for years and is especially close with him after Min-Joon stopped himself from committing suicide many years prior. When news of an approaching comet reaches his ears, he realizes that his time is near and he'll be able to go back in about three months.

Cheon Song-Yi (Jun Ji-Hyun) is Korea's biggest star, and when she moves into her new apartment, she runs into Do Min-Joon, her new next door neighbor. The pair are off to a rough start, both of them detesting the other, especially when Song-Yi finds out Min-Joon's her new professor at school, but continue to have run-ins with one another. Do Min-Joon is put off one day when a drunken Song-Yi leaves her wallet in his home, finding a picture of Song-Yi as a child to realize her younger self looks exactly like the young girl from Joseon time.

Do Min-Joon tries to find out if there's any real connection between her and the girl from the past, but comes up empty handed. Throughout their time together, Do Min-Joon ends up coming to Song-Yi's rescue most days, no matter how small or trivial a matter. Unknowingly over time, the pair begin to develop feelings for the other. As the days go by and Min-Joon's departure date grows nearer, he is conflicted about keeping his alien identity a secret, protecting Song-Yi from the dangers that threaten her, and also about what will happen to them when he must leave for his home planet or what will happen to him if he doesn't.
