God of Study

God of Study (also known as Master of Study) was a South Korean TV show that was aired on KBS2 from January 4 to February 23, 2010. It was a sixteen episode series that was an hour long each. It was based on a Japanese comic series, Dragon Zakura which dealt with a lawyer taking up a teaching position at a failing high school in order to save it from getting the boot. In order to do such a thing, he has to get five failing students into the state’s top university.

Plot

Stubborn yet intelligent Kang Seok Ho takes charge of Byung Moon High School where problematic students reign havoc. Most of these students are failing and for the majority have horrible attitude problems while starting fights from morning to evening. Willing to help due to his juvenile like past, Seok Ho offers to help teach five students into Chun Ha University, the country’s most prestigious.

Of course, English teacher Han Soo-Jung who thinks education doesn’t include getting into a good college often butts heads with the intruder, Kang Seok Ho. Nonetheless, the two work together side by side training Hwang Baekhyun, Gil Pulip, Hong Chang Doo, Oh Bong Goo, and Na Hyun Jung to get into Chun Ha University.

Spending the whole last year of their high school do the five students not only bond with one another, overcome their fears, but find a reason to live while dealing with their responsibilities and hardships.

Overall

Leave it to me to find another high school drama. I can’t help myself with these. I just find drama’s like these the most relatable things and God of Study really pulled at my heartstrings. Yoo Seungho has never failed in making my heart hurt more than needed. He’s such a wonderful actor and I personally think that he really owned the part as Hwang Baekhyun who takes on a really angry appearance due to his saddened past of having no parents and having to take care of his grandmother.

Also I really loved how the five individuals that took up a space in the special class became life long friends that helped one another and basically found ways to ease out of their comfort zones throughout the course of their last high school life. I think I felt floored with emotion mainly because I just graduated from high school and could relate in some type of way.

All in all, everyone should check out God of Study! Total tear-jerker, fair warning.
