High School of the Dead

High School of the Dead was originally a manga series that ran from September of 2006 to May 2013 and is on a current hiatus with seven volumes already included. The series consists of twelve episodes and finished in the year of 2010 in two months as it aired in July all the way to September.

Plot

The setting takes place in present day Japan when the beginning of a pandemic spreads worldwide which is also known as "The Outbreak". The small survivor group not only face the threats of flesh-eating zombies but the collapse of societal norms and moral codes.

Starting from the high school, this group ventures out into the overrun city and make their way towards a safe zone which they can only predict is there.

Overall

Talk about an insult to the horror genre. As this also classified under harem, I just found it as a joke in all honesty. Character development was non-existent and I'm kind of big on that stuff.

For starters, High School of the Dead had potential even though it was a typical apocalyptic story where survivors are doing what they do best: survive. But all the sentimental and good moments were trashed because of over sexualization. It seriously got to the point where I stared to watch this as if it were a perverted comedy show.

Needless to say that I was totally disappointed but there are so many awkward moments in this, I can't even count them. Like I said, it has a lot of potential but way too much fanservice and I understand love triangles but it just wasn't appropriate in this setting.
