Melissa is a small character in Strange Sepia. She is noted as Helen's 'friend' but secretly has a large crush on her. She is a lesbian but 'in the closet', as it were. She has been brought up in an upper class family but is a bad girl at heart.

Although brought up in England, Helen was born in Varkiza and has many Greek relatives, including both her parents. Her favourite part of the year is Midsummer, when the sun is at its brightest, and she hates winter with a venom. She was cast as Hermia in A Midsummer Nights Dream, which then led to her madness and obsession with Toby.

Hermia is a fiery and controlling young Greek woman who lives the city of Athens. She looks very similar to Helen; she is small and has long, dark hair set in curls, olive skin and brown eyes. She is a figment of Helen's imagination, brought on by Helen playing the part of Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Helen grows very obsessed with Hermia and believes that she has possessed her and forced her into falling in love with Toby Robinson.
