    Jack is first seen in Physical Interactions a quarter of the way through the story. He is labeled as the 'new guy' and finds it difficult to make friends at Beaconsfield High. Mia develops a crush on him the first time she lays eyes on him, however, the first time they speak she is quickly turned off from him as he makes a cocky remark to her... yet the very same day he saves her life by persuading her not to jump off a bridge. He is reluctant to befriend her at first due to his insecurities and lack of confidence by being at a completely new school, however they begin to get along very well and over a six month period are nothing but best friends. They soon fall in love but only split up after Mia betrays Jack several times. During the ending of the story they do not get back together entirely, but it is initiated that over time and after graduation they do. In Bodily Communications, the prequel to Physical Interactions, Jack is crushing over his childhood best friend, Elizabeth and finding difficulties to cope with being at home due to his very sick mother, aggressive father and dealing with the death of his only brother, Simon, who died of a drug overdose. Jack shows a great deal of courage and commitment towards his friends which are seen as his second family. He is tormented by Pete whom he has a long rivalry with for years and must protect his sister, Emily, and his friends as Pete creates a plan in order to get revenge on Jack. In Physical Interactions II Jack and Mia are shown about ten months after graduation, they have had a smooth ten months but since the story began they had been having a very rocky relationship. But Jack's strong love for Mia and her strong love for him does not fail and they soon re-unite to leave America for a vacation to England... where everything goes wrong.

    In Physical Interactions Warner is introduced as Ruby's boyfriend and they are described as 'inseparable'. However it is revealed that Ruby is cheating on Warner with his best friend Justin. Warner is shattered by this and finds a friend in Mia Smith. Mia and Warner soon develop a sexual friendship and they explore each-others curiosities with the opposite sex. They both drink, take pills and other illegal drugs as well as party together during the end of the story. However, Mia soon ditches Warner for Jack as she realizes she is in love with him. In Physical Interactions II Warner appears again as an entirely new person. He no longer drinks nor is into drugs much to Mia's disbelief. For some reason he appears at just the right times in the story whenever Mia is in need of help. This casts a shadow over Jack's character making him seem less in love with Mia, however, that is not the case. Mia is attacked by her intoxicated brother, Josh, but is saved by Warner. The same day she has a bitter argument with Jack and her and Warner engage in sexual intercourse. Whilst sleeping, Warner is walked out on by Mia and it is said further in the story that he gives his precious Mustang to her and goes to Ireland to find his roots in the family.

    Miranda is one of the most complex characters throughout the Physical Interactions Trilogy. She has bright green eyes and vibrant red hair. She is introduced as 'a rebel and an utter nerd'. Her intelligence is doubtful as she seems to be so hyperactive, away in her own little world and cheerful yet at significant times can be quite wise and smart. She is bulimic. She highly influences Mia and introduces her to sex, drugs, parties and clubs. The two become quite physical when together and are walked in on by Josh, Mia's older brother. After a fall out with Mia, Miranda as well as Ruby and Justin threaten Mia and bully her. In Physical Interactions II it is revealed that Miranda was in love with Mia all along and only did those things to Mia because she could not have her for herself. Miranda helps Mia when having trouble with Jack in America and afterward surprises Mia by flying to England. Although Miranda greatly influenced Mia in Physical Interactions, Miranda changes roles completely and begins to guide Mia and take care of her in Physical Interactions II. Although she is in love with Mia and trying to cope with never being able to actually have her, Miranda falls for someone else whilst in England...

    In Physical Interactions Ruby is Mia's best friend. She is rebellious and has been into sex and drugs for a long time, however she is so protective of Mia that she acts as her mother and tries to guide her away from that scene. However, Mia finds sex and drugs through another friend - Miranda. Mia looks up to Ruby and is jealous of Ruby's carefree ways, Mia tries to be more like Ruby but on the way loses herself in a giant mess. After cheating on her boyfriend Warner, with his best friend Justin, Ruby finally becomes exclusive with him. She eventually falls out with Mia as she believes Mia spread the secret of her cheating on Warner with Justin - however, it was Miranda. Ruby falls pregnant at the end of Physical Interactions to her love Justin and she plans to keep the baby. At prom Ruby and Mia reconcile. In Physical Interactions II Ruby and Mia become in touch after a long time. Ruby has given birth to a son whom she names Nathaniel and makes Mia his god mother. Mia sees Justin's and Ruby's relationship and wishes that she could be as happy as them, again, Mia wishes she was more like Ruby. Ruby's attitude has matured since high school and she is a happier and bubblier person more than ever.

    Mia is telling both stories of Physical Interactions and Physical Interactions II. She was born into an unfortunate family, with her father beating and raping her mother, her mother being addicted to cannabis and her brother being addicted to drugs altogether. When her brother, Josh, came to his teens him and Mia realized what their father was doing and he kicked out their father and threatened that if he ever came back Josh would kill him. Mia is close to her brother but over the last year or so has found it difficult to communicate with him. In Physical Interactions Mia knows what is expected of her - that she will become just like her brother. She decides she wants to do the opposite of that yet finds herself spiral into the same hole her brother was in. After falling out with her core group of friends, Mia befriends Jack Wilkinson whom she has had a crush on ever since she first saw him. She is also still friends with Warner. Mia believes that Jack is too good for her and after coming to the conclusion that he will never be more than a friend to her she finds a peculiar relationship in Warner. Although they do not actually have sex, they do perform sexual acts with each-other. But eventually Mia falls in love with Jack and breaks things off with Warner. He soon falls in love with her too. Mia is tormented by her old friends - Ruby, Miranda and Justin - but is protected by Jack several times. Mia throws a party - which Jack is forgotten about and not invited to - at her house and it very quickly gets out of control. She betrays Jack several times with many different people. After a sour confrontation with Jack and him revealing his ill mother has died he doesn't speak to her for two straight weeks in which she is grounded. They soon re-unite. In Physical Interactions II Mia and Jack appear at least ten months after graduation. Their relationship has been running smoothly until now. After being attacked by her intoxicated brother, Josh, Mia has an argument with Jack leaving her miserable. She sees Warner whom she has sex with which creates even more havoc for her and Jack. She eventually leaves Warner whilst he was sleeping off their hard working, energy depriving sex. She goes back to Jack and they both leave America for a vacation in England. Mia is kissed by Jared's new girlfriend, Michelle and Joseph spots the two causing an uproar between the three. However, Joseph soon warms up to Mia and they develop a strange friendship. After Mia spots Jack and Elizabeth kissing, she escapes and runs through the night streets during a brewing storm. Joseph follows her. Mia runs into Pete and his friends outside a pub where she is thrown around by them. Joseph comes to her aid but is pushed in front of a car and dies. Whilst dying he kisses her and reveals that he 'liked her best'. Joseph died in Mia's arms. Afterward Mia is taken care of by Miranda at the motel she is staying at and the question of whether Mia and Jack will get back together is dying to be answered by each character...

    Justin was originally Mia's best guy friend. However, after the revelation of Ruby cheating on Warner with Justin their friendship never returned to what it was. Ruby and Justin had been fooling around behind everyone's backs for a while but Mia had caught Ruby performing oral sex on Justin in the smoker's area behind the bike shed and everything was revealed. After Ruby and Mia fell out, Justin obeyed Ruby and followed her. He contributed to the bullying of Mia, however, in Physical Interactions II the past is put behind them and Mia realizes the new person he has become since Ruby gave birth to his son, Nathaniel. He is a father now and had realized the maturity and care required in parenting.

    It was predicted that since his family is so broken, that Josh would go exceptionally downhill. That was exactly what had happened. However, the one right thing everyone knew he did was get rid of his father. Mia's and Joshes father raped and beat their mother for years. When Josh was old enough and physically strong enough to realize this he kicked his father out of the house and said that if he ever came back he'd kill him. In Physical Interactions Josh was an apprentice and learning how to be a builder. He had drug problems yet was mostly sober. Towards the end of the story Mia believed that her brother and mother would get help and end their ways of drugs. Mia's mother does get help but it is suggested that she still might be using pot. Josh, however, never gets help and goes even further downhill. His close relationship with Mia crumbles to pieces when he attacks her but is luckily stopped by Warner. In the end of Physical Interactions II Josh is shown to be sober and on the way to recovery as well as trying to mend his relationship with his dear sister, Mia.
