His father left when he was five and his mother's an alcoholic. He never lets anyone come over, because he's often ashamed of where he lives. Austin has always been the misfit kid, even way back in Pre-K and Kindergarden. Hardly anyone really knew anything about him. He keeps all his feelings under lock and key no matter what since his dad told him showing emotion makes you weak. His worst fear is just that: to be weak in his father's eyes. Of course, everything had to get worse for Austin, when he entered high school and started to feel oddly towards both girls and boys. While not many people know him, the few who do say he's one of the sweetest, selfless, all around great people they know. Austin finds very few things to annoy him, but one person can't seem to stop getting under his skin. He just knows something's going on with her, but he can't put his finger on what, exactly. The worst part of not knowing is one lingering idea--most problems are visible and have a solution. It's the ones that are hidden that are usually the worst of all.

Lulu--the name makes you think of a peppy, hyper-active, outgoing, popular girl, right? Lulu Jimmerson is the exact opposite of that. She's never peppy, she's shy and has only a handful of close friends (that she'd do anything for), and the closest thing she is to hyper-active is the one time she made the mistake of getting high at a party her brother dragged her too when she was in grade 8. Lulu used to be a happy, normal teenager. That all changed in her freshman year of high school when her older brother--her idol, her rock, her light at the end of the tunnel--died in a car crashed caused by a drunk driver. After his death she plummeted into depression and began cutting herself. Of course she never shed a tear in front of anyone, and refused to take pity and empathy from anyone else. All she wanted was her brother back and she knew that would never happen.
