I play guitar in the pirate metal band ALESTORM. We have been touring and playing festivals throughout 2008 and have had the honour of playing alongside some of the biggest names in metal on some of the biggest stages in the world like: Wacken, Graspop, Metalcamp and are soon to be adding to our tour schedule with an EU tour with Grave Digger, a US tour with Tyr and many summer festivals we haven't yet attended. I hope you can all make it along to see us in Europe and the US next year! Without the band I play many instruments, venturing from the normal; Guitar, to the not so normal, Oboe, Clarinet etc.... I enjoy very much playing many different styles of music and as such take many influences from many different areas of music and take that into to my music. I'm an avid video games player, when i'm not playing music you can bet i'm on one of my consoles or handhelds. I'm a big fan of retro gaming(Mega Drive, NES, Snes, Amiga, Commodore etc....all of which i own, most work) I also own the 360 which takes up alot of my time between recording and drinking. I enjoy meeting and challenging folks over Live and am always open to invites. Bio Heri Joensen is a vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist extraordinaire from the Faeroe Islands, a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. Since 1998, he fronts the viking metal band Týr, writing the greater part of all music, and fuelling this band of Northern brothers with boundless energy. He was born in the capital Tórshavn on February 21,1973 but grew up in a village consisting of only two houses with a spectacular view of saga-drenched islands. Right in front of his youthful eyes lived the legends of the past, the Faroese heroes Tróndur í Gøtu and Sigmundur Brestisson, who struggled over power, wealth and religion. At the age of fourteen Heri began playing guitar; at the age of seventeen he started playing in local bands. By this time, Heri’s family had relocated to the well-populated fishing port of Runavik, where he lives to this day. Like so many talented Faroese, Heri moved to Denmark for further education. There he met up with former bandmate Kári Streymoy and they started forming Týr. In the mean time, on the education side of things, Heri..s initial plan was to pursue a degree in Indo-European Comparitive Linguistics. Since he spent most of his time playing guitar and failing classes, he decided to switch careers and attend the music conservatory in Copenhagen, Det Alternative Rytmiske Konservatorium (D.A.R.K.). Between 2000 and 2003, he studied at D.A.R.K., majoring in Guitar, Vocals, and later Music Theory. Since finishing his education and moving back to the Faeroe Islands, his career as frontman of Týr has taken great flight. Heri writes nearly all music himself and draws heavily on Faroese oral tradition for both music and lyrics. In the Faeroe Islands, uniquely in Europe, a tradition of ballad-singing and dancing dating back to medieval times is still very much alive. Ballads containing up to 200 stanzas are sung while dancing in a ring, winding in and out like a musical snake if the dancers are many. In the ballads the stories from the past are preserved, as well as melodies that may be centuries old. The melancholic poetry of J.H.O. Djurhuus (1881-1948) as well as the rebel poet Pól F. (1898-1970) leave their mark on Heri’s lyrics, as do other writers like Jacob Sande, Edgar Allan Poe, and J.R.R. Tolkien. Bio Terji Skibenæs began playing guitar at the age of thirteen. He received some lessons from his older brother, but is mainly self taught. In April 2001, Terji Skibenæs' first band, Flux, played in the same contest as Týr. That's where Terji Skibenæs and Heri Joensen found out they liked the same kind of music. Terji Skibenæs was contacted in December 2001 by Heri Joensen and asked to join Týr. Bio Kári Streymoy is the drummer in Tyr. I started playing drums when I was about 13-14 years old. My uncle (Trondur Streymoy) was a drummer and lead singer in a band (Thunderbirds) and he was a great inspiration for me. You probably won’t believe this, but I started out listening to music such as, Nene, Shakin Stevens, and Suzy Quatro. That all changed one day when I met a friend of mine (Jan Jorgensen) and he had this wonderful little machine, called a Walkman. I asked him if I could listen, and he said yes. When I pressed play, I heard this fantastic unbelievable music (Dio, Don’t Talk to Strangers) and then came the singer. I couldn’t believe my ears; I was in some kind of shock. Vinny Appices hard hitting, heavy groovy rhythms really applied to me (and still does) and he was my biggest inspiration. My first band was called Relax (inspired from Frankie Goes to Hollywood). We played covers and had a lot of gigs all over the islands, but it was all fun and never serious. I left the band and stopped drumming for some years. My next band was Wolfgang. One day I met Gunnar and Heri (Tyr) and was asked to join them, and so I did. After a few years, I went to Denmark to study and work, so I stopped drumming… again. Several years later, I met Heri and a party in Copenhagen, and he asked me if the two of us should come together and jam some time… and the rest is history.
