In Vietnam, her name was Mai Thi Diem (because names are written last, middle, first). When she came to the United States through Angel Island, her name was changed to accommodate the American naming system (first, middle, last). Diem has lived in the United States for two years and has been dating Hayley Williams for about one year. Diem escaped from Vietnam in an attempt to get away from the sex trafficking organization her parents sold her to in 2002. Her only reminders of the past are the red dress she was forced to wear that also served as the dress she escaped in, the paper that was pinned to her clothing with her number 146 on it, and the tattoo of her number behind her ear that she was given when she was sent to the sex trafficking organization. She has yet to tell Hayley about her past and doesn't know that her story was the one that started the LOVE 146 movement.
