In this story, Gerard is a young troubled boy. He's moved to New Jersey from Italy, where he has had an unimaginable childhood that only him, his family and his ex-boyfriend, Joseph, who he was madly in love with, know about. He knows how to defend himself against the bullies in his new school, skills which he uses not only to defend himself, but to defend Mikey and Frank too. Other than that, Gerard's an honest and intelligent person but gets in a lot of shit in school and at home for smoking and alcohol/drug abuse.

Frank is a sweetheart in this story. He's in love with Gerard which makes him seem like a pushover when Gerard asks him for something, but Frank would do anything for Gerard. He's in a relationship with Quinn, but can't seem to stay faithful to him when it comes to being with Gerard. He doesn't want to be in love with him because of the way Gerard is, but he can't help it. He's quite popular in his school, actually more popular than Gerard, but regardless of that, he can't defend himself and sometimes gets picked on.

Mikey Way

Mikey, Gerard's younger brother, is like Gerard's peace keeper. He's a lot more responsible than Gerard, regardless of being 2 years younger than him. He gives Gerard advice about most things, as long as Gerard actually comes to him (rarely ever happens). He gets picked on at school for being a "nerd" but Gerard always defends him. He's a sweet and innocent young boy and he isn't afraid of getting on Gerard's bad-side like most people.

Bert Mc Cracken

In the most basic words, Bert is an asshole. If it wasn't for Bert, Gerard wouldn't get stoned and drunk as much as he does, which eventually becomes a major problem. Bert takes an interest in Gerard as soon as he moves to their school. He, like Gerard, does not believe in relationships but he believes in getting a "good ***" whenever he can. Bert has a major dislike for Frank, who used to be his best friend but something that neither of them will reveal came between them.

Quinn Allman

Quinn is Franks boyfriend. He gives Frank a hard time sometimes for being with Gerard so much. Quinn and Gerard both have a burning hatred for each other. Quinn's hatred is caused more by his paranoia and jealously towards Gerard. When Frank is with Gerard, Quinn tends to hang out with Bert, who is his best friend. Quinn always feels that Frank won't be loyal to him as long as Gerard's around so he tries his hardest to get Gerard out of the picture and away from Frank.
