Although his physical age is 27, Zacky has been walking the earth for over 200 years (he's lost count). Lonely and confused since his sudden conversion to vampirism, he was forced to leave his old life behind him and travelled in search of a companion. During his travels, he came across four young men, three close to death and one just looking for a way out of his old life, and these four became the family he had been looking for. The formation of the band seemed the most sensible (and fun) means of interacting with the human population, particularly as most gigs tend to take place at night. In this way, Zacky's family have survived for over fifty years, travelling all over the world with little trouble from vampire hunters - until a hunter named Cassandra attempts to succeed where others have failed.

Johnny was a fairly ordinary young man of 24, struggling to make ends meet in a poor neighbourhood while courting the girl he loved, but his fortunes turned further south when he became the victim of a mugging. His attacker shot him twice, and he was sure he was going to die, but a certain vampire found him before it was too late, and saved his life by changing him. Now, fifty years on, Johnny is earning his way by playing bass guitar in the band with Zacky and co., and everything is going perfectly smoothly...until Cass appears in their lives. Suddenly everything becomes much more complicated than he'd ever thought it could be.
