After Jack came, Dad made a trip to Sean's apartment to see how he was doing. Not so well, apparently. According to Dad, Sean hadn't eaten in a few days and he looked incredibly tired. Who could blame him? The infection was everywhere and nightmares were free. His apartment was a mess, which was very unlike him. Dad offered to let him stay with us, and Sean accepted." "That's what happened to Jack. He had a wife and a son, but they got infected. He didn't kill them, though. He moved. As it so happened he didn't move very far. Just across town, into our house. Dad knew Jack from work. Work was a bit of a moot point by then, and none of us had really left the house in weeks. So when Jack showed up on our doorstep, we couldn't help but let him in. I was the first one to realize that something was off about him, but when I told Mom and Dad, they shrugged me off, saying it was okay for Jack to be acting like that. His family had been taken from him. I disagreed." (Portrayed by Raoul Bova.)

Elizabeth lives with her parents, two siblings, and two of her father's former co-workers. One she gets along with, the other she doesn't. All she wants to do is get through the horrible world she's living in. Make it through the epidemic and see the other side. Beth has had to grow up fast, and in doing so she's also made some decisions that she would never tell anyone. Even in the hell she's living, Beth is keeping secrets. (Portrayed by Carey Mulligan.)

Louisa is Beth's younger sister. She's grown up in the world of zombies and, though she's been pretty well toughened up, she's still only a little girl. (Portrayed by Elle Fanning.)

Joey is Beth's younger brother. He goes out with his father, Jack, and Sean when they have to find or hunt for food and get other supplies. Though he's not yet 18, Joey is a man now. He's had to form himself into that mold in order to keep his mother and sisters safe. Beth doesn't like that Joey never got to have a real childhood. (Portrayed by Logan Lerman.)

Robert is Beth's father. He allowed his co-workers Jack and Sean to move in with his family, but will, at all costs, put his family above them. He will stop at nothing to keep them safe. Robert and Beth used to be quite close, but after the infection started they grew apart. Beth has become much closer to Sean. (Portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.)

Cara is Beth's mother. She's a homebody, terrified to even venture out onto the front porch. She spends her days reading, sewing, cleaning, and cooking. She watches her children grow up and become their own people, but wishes they would stop. She and Beth are not close at all. They never have been. When the epidemic first broke out, Cara hoped it would drive the two of them together, but, if anything, it only pushed them even farther apart. (Portrayed by Cate Blanchett.)
