Jack Kelly is a brave and strong boy. His past of being in the Refuge, the jail for kids, shows how trouble making he could be but at the same time protective. His father was not a good person and spent a year in the state penitentiary of Manhattan. This also shows through Jack many times. His dream is to go to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he could buy a Ranch and a house, settle down and have a family so he can escape his past in New York. His closest friends are Racetrack and Davey. David, often called Davey, is inspirational and obedient. He was a well educated kid since he spent so much time in school until his Papa, Mayer Jacobs, got injured in the factory and fired on the spot. His family suffered from the loss of his sister Sarah a few months later and had barely any money. But Davey pushed on and kept working as a Newsie. His little brother Les is the most precious thing in his life and he would protect him at any time. From pain and suffering, his mother and father adopted a new daughter named Elizabeth Precille. Mush is a gullible, sensitive but intimidating young boy. Most of the boys make fun of him by making stupid jokes he cannot answer. He is usually out selling papes alone, where no one can laugh at him, but when in the mood, follows behind Jack. Very charming, this Newsie is nice and funny. Although hated by Spot Conlon, Mush Meyers is friends with most of the Newsies. His closest friends are Race and Skittery.| Age: 16

Intimidating, Rude and smart, Spot is some character. Spot is mostly hateful to everyone, but he mostly dislikes Mush. The reason is unknown to every Newsie, but it lingers in his brain. He mostly spends his time on top of an abandoned watchtower at the Brooklyn bridge shooting birds with his slingshot. His past is mostly what makes him so mean, but since he reveals it to no one, everyone stays intimidated. His closest friends are Ling Iklain, a Brooklyn Kid, Boots and Jack.| Age: 15

Racetrack is mostly known for his times of sneaking out to the Tracks at night. He is mostly a tough kid but sometimes he can be sensitive. Race gambles a lot and usually wins. Race usually asks Jack many questions to settle his conscious of doing the bad things he did that day. He asks him mostly things unrelated and then slowly trails to related things. Skittery, sometimes called Jittery or Crybaby, is very anxious when it comes to hard situations. Very paranoid, this Newsie could not survive a day without Jack. Jack usually settles him down, but when Skittery begins to ramble on and on in a fast pace, they know they've lost him again. He also loves giving hope to those who doubt themselves. He complements Mush the most, because Spot insults him. His best friend is Mush.| Age: 17
