Ernesto is exactly what Ariel's father detests about the west side. He comes off to be a bad boy to all by his driving a motorcycle, fighting, cursing, and the like. However it takes Ariel to make him show is true colors: that he isn't as bad as he makes himself look. And, although he is made fun of for it, he allows himself to fall for her.
