Born into the Kuchiki clan Arakawa-sama was the eldest daughter of her parents, in fact she was their only child. After the fall of her father from grace she was quickly betrothed to the eldest son in the Arakawa-clan, the third Noble House. She was just three years old at the time and her husband was ten years old this made a seven year difference in them. After her seventeenth birthday she was married off to Arakawa Hideki. Her husband was a brutal man who had many mistresses and even fathered a few illegitimate children. His favorite mistress was a young branch house woman named Tachibana Kiku who later became head cook thanks to Arakawa-sama. Kiku bore him a child named Takumi who Arakawa-sama, after the death of her husband, names her heir. Arakawa-sama never held any love for her husband and there were rumors for some time that Kiku and Arakawa-sama plotted his demise though no one knows for certain. However her Grandmother-in-Law is silently plotting to marry Arakawa-sama off so that she might get a legal, not illegitimate, heir to her clan. Although Arakawa-sama is the working head she still listens to her Grandmother-in-Law out of respect for her. The old woman has treated her with nothing but kindness. Arakawa-sama's first name is Sayuri but everyone calls her Arakawa-sama as only a few know her real name that work for her.

Tachibana Takumi

Born to the deceased clan head and his long-time mistress Tachibana Kiku, Takumi is considered to be the bastard heir to the Arakawa family. This was further cemented by the simple fact Arakawa-sama adopted him as her heir. He is very intelligent for his age and in some aspects he is also quite naïve. Takumi works diligently for Arakawa-sama and respects her immensely. His own mother suspects that he would gladly live with Arakawa-sama even if they didn’t already do so because he spends every waking hour with the woman. This worries his mother but on the same note she has noticed that her son has stated to gain confidence and skills that she could have never afforded to give him. He is an interesting soul and has a strict sense of loyalty, justice, and a curious streak a mile wide. He is bold and charismatic; very much the little charmer filled with pride in whatever he puts his mind too. Though both Arakawa-sama and Kiku know that his curiosity and pride will get him into serious trouble.

The mistress of Arakawa Hideki. She had his illegitimate child (Tachibana Takumi). She is a skilled cook and a proficient healer and helped Arakawa-sama on multiple occasions. She also helps to nurse Yayoi back to health.
