Adopted at 14, Ema never knew her biological father and her biological mother died when she was 12 of a drink and drugs overdose. Ema was often teased due to how her name was spelt - Her mother had been drinking when she finally registered Ema's birth and unfortunately spelt it wrong - Something Ema now liked as it was her last link to her mother. After 18 months in a childrens home, the Gailey family, Mark and Lynette fell in love with her and made her theirs. Ema met her best friend Roxy and then Zacky when she started high school 3 months after being adopted. Roxy and Ema hit it off immediately, they were like sisters overnight - The same can't be said for Zacky though. At first, Ema hated him, she thought he could be obnoxious, cocky and thought too much of himself, believing he would turn out to be one of those god awful boozing, partying womanisers she read about and saw on TV but as she got to know him when they were partnered together in the science labs, they slowly bonded over mutual likes and became friends. Ema realised it could be more than friendship a few weeks after her awful senior prom when Zacky stopped the gym teacher raping her in the toilets. Zacky never left her side after that for over a month, forsaking his other friends and family to ensure her wellbeing. He was the only man she trusted for a long time and the one who showed her that obstacles were put there to challenge her, that she was stronger than she knew. Ema's what could be classed as alternative. Her hair passes her shoulders by around 3 inches and is dyed blue and green - It's become her signature. She also has an array of tattoos and piercings, often making 'dates' with Zacky where they both go off to the parlour together for the day.
