  Responsible but directionless, Claire took a gap year to figure out what she wants to do with her life. Guess that didn't work out well for her. She is Haley's older sister and is both best friend and worst enemy, alternatively comforting and relentlessly teasing her little sister; first and foremost she is now guardian, as their father disappeared during the apocalypse.

  Collin is something of a horror movie junkie, especially of the zombie variety. The wanna-be artist, however, never imagined he'd be landed in a real-life horror movie. He prides himself in being resourceful and genre-savvy; how much of this is true depends on the day.

  Elizabeth is ashamed of her Chinese-American heritage and didn't hesitate to take her husband Carl's last name. Even after the two divorced, she didn't change her name back. While part of this is due to her aversion to her surname, mostly it is due to the immensely civil divorce: Carl couldn't pretend not to be homosexual any longer and Elizabeth couldn't pretend not to be asexual any longer. The two remained fast friends. Nowadays, Elizabeth is head chairperson of Envirex and sole supervisor of Envirex's weapons division. Her fellows on the board turn a blind eye to her actions and in turn she has singular responsibility.

  Haley is rebellious and spunky, marching to the beat of her own drum, and flat out refuses to conform to society's expectations of her. She is loud and unladylike while being simultaneously effeminate and flirtatious; she's just as likely to giggle sweetly as she is to bust a man's chops. She is fit and active, having many years of wrestling experience under her belt.

  Harlan suffers from PTSD, thanks to his experiences at the hands of curious doctors. He ran away from home and eventually made his way to The City; here, at seventeen, he was brought into the program. He used to be neighbours with Silas and had quite the schoolboy crush on him growing up. When he isn't mentally breaking down, he enjoys practical jokes and has a very childish sense of humour; he's typically loud and commands attention easily, causing people to gravitate to him and his odd charisma.

  While his nineteen day period spent in total isolation has not done his psyche any favours, he is not yet insane. It's more like he can't deal with everyone being gone and leaving him alone, so he turned to an inanimate object as something/someone to talk at. (So pretty close). He doesn't truly believe he owns the world; he's just using that as a means of segregating two parts of himself: the happy go lucky aspect that makes a joke out of everything and the self-incriminating, lonely and depressed part of him. He knows what he does isn't healthy but it's a way for him to compartmentalise his sorrow until such a time as he can properly deal with it.

  Jamie has a youthful appearance and 90% of the time her actions match this. However, her immature antics belie her self-aware, serious and charismatic nature. She is loud and overtakes conversations but if one were to pay attention to what she says, one would find she rarely, if ever, says anything of import. One man (her father) called her a meretricious little brat, and that couldn't be more true superficially. On the whole, she is Envirex's pet; she goes out and stalks a prospective candidate for weeks to gauge their risk level and then, if they meet the criteria, she goes in and convinces them to visit Envirex.

  Miles has some ethically questionable habits (just ask Envirex) but is kept in line by Tristan. He is sarcastic, with a biting tongue that lashes out indiscriminately, philosophises on nearly anything at the drop of a hat, and overall seems detached from life. This is all true, especially the last point, as he is an extremely private man by nature. Around Tristan, however, he seemingly undergoes a complete personality shift: he has a knack for making horrible puns, uses terms of endearment constantly and banters affectionately. His current mental state can only be described as shattered; knowing you are the cause for the destruction of not only your love but thousands of others' loves and acutely understanding that pain will do that.

  Silas wavers between acting irrationally immature to unusually mature; he may pitch a fit or sulk one day and the next articulate his emotions using a broad and complex vocabulary. Most of the time he keeps a level head, doing whatever he think the situation calls for without panicking. He has a high threshold for stress but this whole ordeal has been slowly but surely wearing down on him. He was once best friends and neighbour to Harlan and took his disappearance rather harshly: his mother put him into therapy once he escalated to getting violent with himself and others.
