Amanda met Sam through their mutual friendship with Riley, Sam's wingman. During their first deployment, the medic and pararescuers became extremely close and Riley and Amanda fell in love. They dated during their time back in New York and during their second deployment a year and half later, Riley proposed- Amanda said yes. With thoughts of their wedding day buzzing around her head, Amanda and Riley's second deployment with Sam seemed a breeze. The fighting had dwindled if only slightly and everyone seemed in a good place- then Riley died. Amanda was devastated to say the least. She kept it together long enough to finish her second tour and was almost sent back but she was medically discharged due to her mental state, just months after Sam left. Sam offered his home to the woman and Amanda reluctantly agreed, knowing having Sam around would be better for her than living alone with the constant reminder of Riley in their old apartment. Amanda took the job as a nightshift ER doctor and Sam works with the VA as a group counselor. He keeps trying to get Amanda to attend but she purposefully took the nightshift so she couldn't go without risking working on no sleep. Amanda is sullen and withdrawn but all that changes when Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff show up on their door step needing aid. The two ex-soldiers understand the dangers of HYDRA as Steve explained them and are quick to off their help. Little did Amanda know that this was going to be the beginning of a new life, a fresh start, and old feelings. FANFIC: Doc
