  • Uh, ok...hah.
I have so much to say about this chapter, I don't even know where to begin.

As always, your writing is so... elegant.
Really, really good. I love how it's so easily read.
    I'm really getting into this!
It's so mysterious, I've got so many questions about everything!
    Haha.

The first thing was that it was Lily, not a maid, bringing food. The gesture was personal, intimate...motherly.
    - When I read that, I was like 'Oooh, it's their "dead" son'! I'm gonna comment about it!'
But then I realized you were going to tell us who the violinist was, so yeah.. no need to ask about that.

I wonder what's wrong with Alphonse (love his name).
Is he really cursed, or is he just ill?
His parents are obviously hiding something big, they're lying a lot.
Gah, I can't wait to read more!
I need to know what happens next!

  • Oh man!
    I'm getting so into this.
Lots of lies and deciet coming from Charles and Lily, I feel.
They're pulling something --- I'm afraid Faerie will be next.

  • and dun dun dun!!!!
    the drama starts.
    i still have that nagging deja vu feeling;
    but oh wells.
i'd try to shrug it off.

i have a feeling it's a young man playing the violin...
and he's the one who's 'sick'?

  • Brilliant.
    Absolutely brilliant.

    It's getting very interesting.
Again, about the illness thing. So mysterious.
With Lily being pale, looking sick, and not eating.
Charles and the maids obviously lying about the situation.

    Very, very interesting..
    Can't wait for more!

  • well done - you actually seem to know a fair bit about the era/the study of alchemy. kudos to you for doing your homework! :]
i really love the Victorian era and such (is it the Victorian era when this story is set? it's really become sort of a catch-all phrase), so mysterious and elegant. i like how things are starting to build up, can't wait for all of it to come together. and this story reminds me a lot of the gemma doyle books and The Secret Garden.
the only thing that would make me happier is if i could rest my eyes upon more of the lush, mellifluous imagery attributed to the geographic location/era. :] (since i noticed people don't seem to critique much of your work.)

  • i don't actually write a lot of story comments but i just had to tell you that this is amazing.
seriously, i've read a lot of stories on this site and not many hold my interest anymore, but from the first chapter i was hooked. it's really well written, it reminds me of the great and terrible beauty series. i'm sure you've already heard that but whatever.
hahah alright i'm done babbling now.

  • I love this.
    I love this!
    Goodness, it is amazing!

Lily reminds me of someone from another book, but I can't quite remember who it is.
    I really like her.
And I was also thinking that maybe her son didn't really die.. There's something strange about that family.

"Strangely enough, I'd noticed that there were more portraits of handsome, black-haired, pale skinned, men. It seemed that this was a trait in the Wainwright boys, but they all had a certain look about them. Their all were all more sunken in the others, and their skin always looked just a bit sallow. I did not know much about anatomy or about illnesses, but I imagined that maybe they'd all contracted a similar illness."

    Very mysterious.
    Same with the Morgensterns.

"But I knew, I just knew that there was more to the Morgensterns than just beautiful faces and tall tales."

"But I felt the farmiliar brush of cold air on the back of my neck. Death was close, I could feel it."
    Uh oh..
    Can't wait for more!

  • I love this.
I also love the Philosopher's Stone and mandrakes.
Whether or not it is intentional, the use of those terms remind me of Harry Potter.
    I'm glad you updated. (:
