This story, so far in, seems a lot more human. It has to do with the typical things most people handle. Most people do not have to handle stays in the psych ward. Lots of people have to handle hangovers, drunk significant others, and unwanted mothers coming over for dinner.
It's really amazing to see Gerard and Ryan dealing with these oh-so-typical things after the extreme intensity of S&S. Both stories are gorgeous, but they have such different tones and subject matter.
I absolutely cannot wait for more.
P.S. I have a hard-on for Adie Armstrong, so you mentioning her made me smile.
Love it! Brilliant start to what i'm sure is going to be an amazing story. You write as well as always, and I'm just thrilled that there's a sequel to one of the most unique and fabulous stories I have ever read.
Ryan has changed so very much, and I'm not sure I like it. Obviousley I like it, I just... You know what I mean. Well at least i hope you know.
I'm so glad you continued S&S and posted it so quickly. It would have taken me ages, but I guess only awesome people have the power to dish out chappies in a heartbeat. Teehee.
Okay, so, the real review. Even if I loved loved LOVED the ending of Sick and Sain, it was kind of saddening and kind of a relief at the same time that, nearly a year later, things haven't been going well. It just... makes it so real, emphasizing that despite fairytale meetings in asylums and a seemingly-happy-ever-after, the characters still keep developing and turn out not so perfect, it's like they're really alive. I dunno if you got that, but that's how I felt.
I also think you already know how much I adore your style. That inside-your-head-I'm-rambling-my-heart-out-signature Fish style. It's so unique and I can really tell your work apart from others.
Ryan bit his lip, looking like a cartoon character. The kind designed to make little girls go ‘aw,’ and little boys scream ‘pansy,’ which really was Ryan Ross in a nutshell.
~Made me laugh like a hyena. Gave me a strange picture in my head. xD
Maybe though Gee, maybe this is what happens after almost a year. Maybe that’s just how it works. It’s March, you met him last May. People change Gee, haven’t we gone through this a million times before? Oh sure—you did too. Sain. You’re finally sain again. So is Ryan still sick? Is it really a bad thing if he’s not sick? Or do you just want to preserve him like a living museum. Or not living. A weird almost-human model of some guy from some band?
We get a glimpse of the past, of the angsty present, and the uncertain future. The tone, or the mood, was set just right, a mixture of jealousy and pissed-offness and a bit of love and concern. A fantastic balance; admirable how you maintain it.
This is great so far. I think it's going to turn out into a fantastic story, just like Sick and Sain. Sometimes sequels don't live up to the first, but I think this will. I'm excited for it.
Gerard the Housewife.
xD
I'm so glad you have the sequel up and running already!
I love your writing style. Simply fabulous.
