This was a very nice, simple and sweet story. The relationship between Dexter and Eve was amazing. I loved how Eve even mentioned it a couple of times in her thoughts as "friends to the bitter end" and whatnot because it gave me a sense she really cared for Dexter and appreciated him being around. And Dexter sounded like a really great guy, too, especially with the gift he gave her at the end. I like how you didn't mention what it was, that it left it completely up to the reader to decide what it could be. I think you've succeeded in writing a nice friendship story where the two best friends don't feel romantic feelings for each other. I loved it.
