Where The Waves Break - Comments

  • Oh, this is great! I’m here from comment swap (I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get matched up with this story; I noticed it’s been a while since this was last updated, but the comment swap feature is pretty broken so that’s probably why it’s taken a while!)

Anyways, this is a wonderful story! Greta is a very likeable protagonist, and both Ryder and Blake seem like good companions for her (I don’t know who I ship her with, and I consider that a good thing). There’s a lot of positivity alongside the more turbulent aspects of the plot – major kudos for being able to balance it out! I really love how the families are able to have a nice holiday together despite the reason why they’re gathered in that house. I also adore how strong both families seem in their bonds with each other; you’ve created a very realistic situation with fleshed-out characters, and it’s the kind of thing that many kids can relate to nowadays. I’d love to see an update for this if you’re ever in the mood to write it again! :)

  • I was finally able to read this story, and I have to say, I'm so glad I did. I really love it. It captures all the heartbreak and happiness that accompanies being estranged from a parent but with a best friend. I love your writing style and I can't wait to read more!

  • Loved the update! So sorry for the delay in commenting; over a month delayed, geeze. Sorry about that. :O
But I swear, the more you keep updating this and the more I keep reading, it sounds more and more like an actual book. :)
Hm... so Ryder was a bit jealous of Blake, no? It was sweet of Blake to give Greta those cds, though. It's nice that they're still close and able to be friendly with each other without it being awkward or thoughts of their past relationship getting in the way.
Can't wait to see what you have next in store! I love this story. :D

  • I read until the third chapter and I had to take a break and tell you how fabulously written this story is. You are a spectacular writer. I love the layout that you have put with the story and the fact that your font is large enough to be read. I think that the story it's self is believable and relatable to people in the real world. You are obviously a talented writer and I hope that you continue to write and further your abilities.

  • this is story is really good, so far anyway, and i'm guessing that it's not going to go from great to really bad in the next chapter. the layout is super pretty and fits with the story well, and the story itself really is just great.

it flows nicely, and although there's a lot going on, it's never too confusing. i'm properly hooked into the story, and as soon as i've posted this i'm carrying straight on, i can't wait to see what happens next. <3

  • I got this off of comment swap, and I am super happy that I did. I love the layout, first of all. It doesn't take anything away from the story and it goes nicely. I love the whole relationship Greta and Ryder have, it is so cute! I am for sure subscribing! :)

  • Yay, an update! :D Aha. Loved the new chapter! :)
Aww... I love how Ryder was there for her. That was so sweet of him. :') And hm... I wasn't really expecting Greta to break down like that. I found it sort of surprising at first, but I guess I can understand it seeing as she's upset with just, the situation with her parents and all. She probably didn't expect things to get so bad that her mom doesn't let her dad know where they are. That's a pretty important factor, and even though parents fight, generally they at least let the other know what the status is with their kids and all. :/ But it's just showing that things are on a tight rope between them, seeing as Greta's mom didn't say anything to her dad.
So... yeah. There's my rant. XD But it's sad that her and her siblings are going through this right now. :(
And as for suggestions, um... as for the story concept, I honestly don't think you should change anything. I love the idea you have for this, dearly, because... I don't know. lol. It's just, an idea that I like because it's like, a running away story, and it's to a place with so many memories, I guess. Generally when you see runaway stories, people go somewhere they've never been before, to forget about their past, but in this one... you have them go somewhere they know pretty well. And during the winter, at a place that's more of a summer spot. I also like the concept of all of the kids being there together and all, like, as a group. Where in comparison similar ideas to running away just involve one or two people, max.
So don't change the plot. Really. The only thing that I could assume is affecting readers is the updating schedule. Like, I've found that if you update frequently, you get more readers. And consistently. Like, I along with a few others understand that things can get hectic and it can be hard to update, but most people just want something that's there and new to read. You know? And it may be hard, but I think that may be why you don't have as many. Sadly, people just get impaitent and can't stick around that long for updates. Usually updating each week or every other is the way to go. And there can always be those occasional times that you take longer than that, and people will still be here to read.
Maybe to prepare for that you could also start prewriting a few chapters in advance. What I used to do is write a chapter, but I wouldn't post it until I had the chapter after that written and maybe begin another after that as well. That way, you stay ahead on things, and don't just finish one chapter and then have to take even longer to post the next one because you don't have it written yet.
So I think the problem may be just the way that you're updating and taking a while to do so. Like I said, I totally can understand with school and all, and it being hard to have any free time, let alone use that free time to just write when you probably want to relax, but I guess it depends on how dedicated you are to the story you're writing. If you want to get it out there, get more readers, and just write it down while it's still in your head, then do it whenever you can. But if you find that you'd just rather laze around then write for it, then it may be something you want to scrap. Seeing as your not as into the idea as you originally thought. You know? Don't go with an idea unless you have a strong inspiration and desire to write it. That's how real author's get their books done on time. Aha.
Gosh, sorry this comment is so long. Just thought I'd try to explain as thoroughly as possible.
I really hope you figure it out. Like I said, I don't think it's the concept or your writing that's the problem. It's really the planning that goes into it, and consistency of your updates.
Great job with the new update. Aha. Can't wait for more! :)

  • Loved the update!
Aw, some later night beach going. lol. In the winter, which just makes it a lot more interesting with the water being colder and all. And they still got in! Or well, I guess with Greta it was against her will... :P
Hm... and their father still doesn't know where they are. :o I don't blame him for being concerned. Will Greta tell him? Or will she find out what's going on from her mom?
Great update! Really can't wait for more! :D

  • Loved the update! :)
Hm... so you aquainted us with more characters now. Blake, Greta's ex (who I think Ryder was at least a little bit jealous of, no? ;P Or, well, it seemed like it anyway), and Clarke. Oh, and I love how Greta changes her hair, by the way; I love to do that myself, so I don't blame her. :)
Being there during winter is probably a lot to get used to, but I imagine it's beautiful all the time, no matter the season. lol. Even though I haven't seen it myself. :P
Anyway, lol, great update! Can't wait for more! :D
