Man Alyssa must have been really tired if she didn't wake when Matt first tried to wake her up.
Since she is alway alert but she seemed to be dead tired with the stress of pleasing Matt so she won't get beaten.
So Brian is an early riser.
Matt is one asshole that doesn't deserve to have Alyssa, she deserves someone that will treat her right and shower her will love!!!!

So Brian already knew that Matt was treating Alyssa wrong and seeing her face just confirmed his suspicions about it.
Even though Alyssa's lie is very obvious that she was lying about the bruise on her eye.
And he probably tell by the way she looks, she looks like a scared rabbit and who knows if Matt has been letting her eat properly.
I believe what he said (“Well, pain doesn’t last forever,” Brian spoke, his eyes turning soft as he looked at Alyssa. “Even when you think it will, it fades away eventually.”) was give Alyssa hope that the pain she is going through will end now that Brian is there.
