Interesting story. The characters and setting are very well introduced and easy to picture.
One thing that left me with questions, however, was why the main character felt as though this forest fire was a blessing in disguise. Clearly, this is meant for some foreshadowing, which is good, but it would be better if there was some sort of thought process that led the protagonist to suspect this as a blessing in disguise.
