Thirteen Years - Comments

  • For the MM Writing Contest:
You only use 'I' and 'you', never giving us a gender of either one so this can apply to anyone who reads it and can relate to the situation. A lost potential love, through nothing else other than their own reluctance to tell the truth of their feelings. So many people can relate to this. The emotion that I can feel beneath the words makes it relate-able, understandable, like someone who has never experienced this before can feel it almost as if they're experiencing it themselves. This was lovely.

  • For the magazine contest.
I enjoyed the way you told this as though it were a story to a loved one that had been lost, and I think there are a lot of people that could relate to that. It was very obvious that you were passionate about this piece from the beginning, and even though it was short, you put a lot of emotion into it.

  • Short, yet sweet. It wasn't a very descriptive story, but that fit what you were trying to do. Maybe I'm reading too into this, but it's as if the shortness of it sort describes how telling someone you love you is. There isn't much to say to really describe how we love someone. No flowery words, no objects, just those three simple words are the best way to just tell someone that you love them. (You, of course, being anyone.) The two pictures worked well together. I could easily picture in my mind a note with the words 'I Love You' on a green door covered in foliage from the lack of being used. Then there's the use of 13 years. That seems to be an unlucky number like with Friday the 13th, except this time it's not being used for a horror film. This time it's being used to describe how waiting is never the answer. After all, we never know when the last day will be that we see that one person we love. It could be tomorrow, thirteen years from now. Since life is so uncertain we should get over our fears and tell that one person that we love them before it's too late.

Great message and story. I loved it.

It's so tragically sad and dear Lord, it was just so amazing.

You have a beautiful writing style.
    Really beautiful.

  • I really liked this one. I liked how it actually made me feel sad at the end. Although I would have liked some dialogue in there, it was still very touching nonetheless.
