OMG!!! Love love this story!!! Love that Caroline makes Sid work for his relationship with Jamie!!! Please keep writing!! Your storytelling is amazing!!!
mmm, I would also like to say that MAF should be angry with Sid. It's bullshit to leave your friend in charge of your child for longer than you agreed to. It's rude, it's inconsiderate, and it is absolutely disrespectful to your friend, your babysitter, your child's teacher, another relative, whoever is caring for your child in your absence. It's not cool to pawn your kid off on others because you can't be bothered. And if you have to entrust your child's care to someone else, you have should not be disrespectful. They are taking care of what should be your biggest treasure, something irreplaceable and invaluable. If something comes up, by god you tell the people who have your kid ASAP that you'll be late. Unless he's hurt or locked in a room without a way to get a message out, Sid has NO excuse for not keeping MAF advised that he would be late. When he didn't, he is telling MAF that his time isn't worth as much as Sid's time when he's doing Sid a favor. He's taking advantage of MAF, plain and simple. What if MAF had to leave? It's not MAF's responsibility to make sure Jamie is supervised, it's Sid's. Friends help friends, yes, but it's never ok to take advantage or take them for granted.
So not only is Sid being a shitty parent, he's being a bad teammate and friend. He's burning bridges with Caroline and with his child; does he even care he's doing so with his friends? He's captain and he's not acting responsibly. I cannot imagine there not being repercussions. I hope everyone calls him on his behavior.
I can be a good reader or a bad reader for an author in that I am not shy to make my opinion heard if I have strong feelings about something (good or bad). Not everybody appreciates honesty! I'm glad I'm not aggravating you with my comments.
@ Jayess The whole thing with Mario is there just because I needed Sid to have a reason to leave Jamie with Neal, Staal and MAF. And as you'll see a little of in the next chapter is that Sid's situation with Jamie and Caroline isn't that widely known, but kept more private and the reason MAF and Vero know is because they are as close as they are with them.
I'm thankful for the insights you're giving me with your comments since I'm just making all this up out of my own imagination. It also makes me happy that you take the time to really read the story and actually think about things like these, so thank you
Oh, I know that's why they ended things and Caroline is certainly not doing anything wrong. You can't make someone else change, they need to want to do it. It's his responsibility as a parent to be a parent, she can't make him be a parent. And frankly, right now he's acting the part of a sperm donor; in her position, I would probably try to keep my kid's interactions with such a person to a minimum. Because, yeah, it's bad enough to be put last and be constantly disappointed as an adult. But as a kid, when you don't have much power over your own life, with little say in what happens to you, being put last by someone who is supposed to love you hurts. I'm not surprised that her priority is trying to keep Sid from hurting Jamie. Good on her. And she absolutely shouldn't make excuses for Sid to Jamie. She shouldn't badmouth him but in her position, I'd make him responsible for his disappointing Jamie. I'd make him tell his son why he's not important enough to make time for. His choices, his consequences. She's not doing anyone any favors in some ways by interceding when Sid fails - again. Maybe Sid would get it if he saw and heard directly how his choices affect his kid. She should support Jamie and not put him in the position to be hurt by Sid as much as possible but it should totally be on Sid when he does.
I'm surprised at Mario, though, I'd think that with his emphasis on family and his having 4 children of his own, he and Nathalie would be disappointed in Sid's behavior, too. And Sid's parents. Also his other teammates who are parents: Dupuis, Kunitz, MAF, Letang (assuming this is set in 2013, I forget when it's set); so many of them are family men. They obviously know about Jamie, right? I know that it would color my personal interactions with someone negatively, knowing that they're choosing to be a deadbeat parent. You don't have to be financially absent to be a deadbeat parent IMO.
but hey, what do I know. Just my two cents as a parent. I'm rooting for Caroline and Jamie. I'd love to see what kind of eye-opening you're planning for Sid. It seems like he needs repeated applications of the proverbial clue-by-four.
