I’m here as the new host for ‘The Writing Contest’.
I’ve played WoW before, but in all honesty, I’m not very familiar with the lore at all. I wasn’t even aware that this was a fanfic at first because the name Darkspear was familiar but I couldn’t quite place it. Though I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the trolls either so this might also be why. Either way, I definitely wasn’t familiar with the story. So it was really good that you explained it as if it were original fiction. It helped ease me into it and also understand what was happening and who people were. (Though I did remember Garrosh from playing the game! I had a moment of pride there.) This is also my first WoW fanfic.
Your attention to detail is impeccable. It immersed me quickly and deeply into every situation, from the first hunt to the Naga on the beach. You balanced each scene easily with detail and action. So it never became an info dump as I was interested in the action whilst also being informed of what was happening. It also helped me learn the character, from Vartokk to Zuni. It made it where although my time with Zuni was short, I still was upset when he died! What an awful way to go, too. You did so well in writing that pain and sorrow that Vartokk suffered during the entire scene that I felt the emotions. Then to have Zuni’s mother blame her, oh man. So awful.
Your writing style alone is very fluid and enjoyable.
I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this, honestly, but I ended up really liking the chapters that I read so good job!
