I’m here to judge for ‘Christmas Fan-Fiction Contest’. (In the middle of summer, yes.)
Ahh, this was a really cute one-shot! I liked how you started it with Jacob’s discomfort and being overwhelmed by everyone else’s happiness. The way you wrote his surroundings was so detailed that I felt that Christmas vibe that he was so against in that moment. It was kind of like the holiday dream, with the fresh pine and baked goods and the music. I just loved the overall vibe in the Uley house and how Jacob was a complete contrast to that in his sadness. I also got a good grasp on his dynamic with the other characters in their brief interactions, so that was really nice.
I actually laughed a little when he couldn’t get the key in the door. You even captured that drunken frustration well, and the dread that his Dad was going to lay into him for it. But the way she surprised him was so sweet. His reaction was adorable because he was obviously so dead-set on being miserable.
This piece on a whole was actually really adorable and very well-written with those delightful Christmas vibes. So great job!
