I’m not usually one for vampire stories. I never used to have problem with them (although honestly, I still didn’t read them much before either) but I suppose since things like Twilight, Vampire diaries and all that came out, the topic just irritates me. I know, I shouldn’t judge without giving it a chance (have never read/watched Twilight and never intend to) but I dunno, the whole seriously over-romanticizing the supernatural just bugs me.
But… I liked the summary (honestly, based on that I didn’t realise it was a vampire fic) and then I liked the first chapter. So I decided to put my somewhat generalized opinion of vampire fictions aside and give it a chance. And I’m glad I did.
Chapter One
I like how it starts out by feeding the reader a little bit of information… but not a lot. I’m left with questions, but I’m not confused or anything.
Brian and Avery’s bond is interesting. I like that they’re connected—assumingly through them both being vampires now and all that—and that they’re married. It’s kind of cute. Haha. I can’t say I blame Avery for needing to check on her sister for herself, since it’s all well and good to receive information from a third party, but nothing can really satisfy curiosity or concern like seeing her for herself.
Chapter Two
I like the Ellie is driven. She has goals and is clearly working hard for them, which is good to see in a character. I mean, I like that she has a back story (even though it’s not a pleasant one) but that she’s realized that she has to move forward and isn’t dwelling on her loses. Sometimes characters like that can be a little annoying, when they just dwell and mope about all the shitty things they’ve been through, so yeah, just glad she’s not like that.
Werewolves? Interesting.
Well Matt is certainly a regular. But makes sense since he’s keeping tabs on Ellie for Avery.
He wanted more than a simple touch of the hand, but he only glanced back to the stage.\
That’s interesting… does that imply that he has a thing for Avery? Awkward. Haha
The concept of dhampirs being basically breeders for vampires is interesting. Makes sense they would be sought after and why Avery fears for her sisters safety.
I don’t blame Avery for being overwhelmed with guilt. It would be hard to basically come face to face with someone you left behind—let alone your sister—and not experience a range of emotions that would be pretty unbearable. It sucks that things had to be the way they are, but at least Ellie is safe… for now.
Well that was surprising! When Justin came up behind her, I expected he was her boyfriend… not a creep. Cool twist
Her friends are cute. Although I don’t blame her for being uncomfortable around Gabriel and Nathan… I’m all for PDA, but it’s so annoying when a couple can’t cool it and keep it light when they’re hanging with their friends. It’s just awkward. Hahaha.
Uh-oh. Instant distrust for Emile… hope she doesn’t do something stupid and go home with him. Or invite him to hers.
Chapter Three
I’m glad Matt stepped in. Clearly he takes looking out for her seriously, which is good. Obviously he’s well known, since the other guy backed down and took off pretty quickly. I hope she hasn’t been sucked in and doesn’t actually try to go see him. Haha.
“So, nice meeting you, Matthew, but you ruined what could have been the best sex of my life.”
Bahahaha! Well, she does beat around the bush, does she? Too bad she doesn’t realise it could’ve been the last sex of her life. If it even got to that.
Mind reading and mind control… well that’s going to be interesting. Especially when she finds out. Haha.
Well, looks like they’re going to have to do something serious about Emile, since he seems to have figured out what Ellie is and has now tried to claim her. Interesting way of Matt trying to deal with it, by saying he claims her… seems like it was the best option, but for sure a lot of people are gonna be pissed about it. Hahaha.
Chapter Four
I like the way you mention Ellie’s coworkers and people in her day to day life, as I think a lot of writers tend to forget to add in background characters. I mean, they might never be mentioned again or be remembered, but it helps fill out the story by having them mentioned. Sometimes I find that writers will overdo it with characters and seemingly struggle with them all in scenes and it can get confusing. But this isn’t like that at all
Hahaha! Ah, that pesky mind reading ability… Ellie might have to be careful what she thinks around him. Although I’m sure he’d get a real kick out of her drooling over him in her mind.
That would suck to not be able to taste food or even drinks anymore. Blood is all well and good, but I can’t imagine it differs that much in taste. How boring. Haha.
It’s nice to see that Marvin is protective of Ellie. She’s got a lot of back up, too bad she has no idea. Haha.
I look forward to learning what’s going on with Matt’s feelings towards Avery… he seems very hung up on her and I’m curious if it’s unrequited love or if something happened before she was linked to Brian.
Chapter Five
I can’t say I blame Ellie for spiraling into a dark depression when Avery went missing. I can’t imagine losing everyone I love and being left behind, alone. But it’s easy to assume it would be incredibly hard just to drag yourself out of bed on a daily basis… let alone do anything else.
Wow… ten lovers in the space of five sexually active years? That seems like a lot to me. I dunno, maybe because my number is pretty low (4, to be honest) and I’m like 27… but then again, I never really did the one night stand thing.
Seems it might not have been sex she was craving, but just intimacy. Understandable, considering her situation.
I understand Matt’s plan and why he has to do it, but it’s very hard to believe it’s going to go as planned. Someone is going to fall in love and the whole thing is going to end up messy, I’m sure.
Chapter Six
It’s interesting to learn that Avery was investigating her parents death when she disappeared. I look forward to learning her side of things and what it was that happened and how she ended up where she is now.
It was nice to see her realise that she wasn’t totally alone, even if she felt like she sometimes was. Everyone needs to feel like they have someone who would care if she suddenly disappeared or god forbid, died. It’s a natural instinct to want to be loved and cared for… it’s just sad that she doesn’t have anyone she feels like she can always depend on and who is always there.
Well, I got my answer as to what happened with Avery investigating her parents accident! Well, more of an answer than what Ellie knows… but there’s still more to be explained. With time, I’m sure.
Y’know, I kind of like that Matt is hung up on Avery. I mean, I feel bad for him, sure, but I’m glad he’s not instantly infatuated by Ellie… y’know? He’s very much blinded to anything he could feel for because of his unwelcome feelings for her sister. It means if anything is to come of them, it has to be worked up to on both parts, which I prefer.
Haha, well Ellie went and made things easy for Matt, didn’t she? Things are about to get quite interesting.
Chapter Seven
I hate leaving voicemail’s. I always sound ridiculous, I say something stupid or I just speak way too fast. It’s such an awkward thing to have to do sometimes. Especially if you’ve worked yourself up to make the call, then you get stuck with voicemail. Haha.
Aww, they have a date. I know it’s supposed to be a ruse for him, but I’m kind of excited for them to have a date. Haha.
I like that Katy Perry song. Actually, I like most of her songs… she’s not bad for a pop artist I think my favourite off that album would be Circle the Drain though.
It’s cute how they’ve been talking via text and phone calls before their date. It seems she’s getting very swept up in the idea of dating Matt and whilst it’s sweet, it’s a bit worrisome since we know Matt’s intentions. I just hope he’s careful and she doesn’t end up with a completely broken heart. Again.
I couldn’t help but laugh when Brian made him promise he wouldn’t have sex will Ellie. I know he’s looking out for his wife’s sister, but it was still a little funny. It was like a father speaking to his 17 year old son. Hahaha.
He made sure not to get those because it would be creepy that he just knew that.
Hahaha, yeah, it would’ve.
“Fuck off, Emile,”
Bahahaha! Well that’s gonna piss off the Frenchman, isn’t it? Hahaha
Well, I can safely say I’m very interested in where this story is going. Sorry for the super long comment, but that’s how I do things. Haha. I look forward to the next installment!!
Oh boy. I think Matt's getting himself into more then he is bargaining for. I know he is trying to save her from Emile. I think that he a gonna end up falling for her. But I can't wait to see if he does!
Typo on chapter 5: "The plan to go perfect." I love it so far. I'm listening to Closer and trying very hard to find the sex appeal, but I can't. T.T I tried!
I'm really curious to know what Matt is going to do. I must admit its kinda creepy that he followed her to the one night stand but it was for protection.
