This was so sweet! I'm so happy that entering in my contest inspired this because it was absolutely adorable. I was actually surprised that they weren't already together because in the beginning, I felt the love that Ruthie had for West immediately. It was overwhelming and prominent in the narrating so to find out that they weren't together was surprising for me, then I felt Ruthie's rollercoaster of emotions as she lived in the impression that it was unrequited love. It was sweet relief when West oh-so-smoothly confessed his feelings, heh.
What reeled me in was the way you expressed Ruthie's emotions because it was relatable and so well done that I could feel them as I read. However, though I know it's a one-shot and you probably didn't want it to be really long, I still found myself wanting to know more back story, you know? I wanted to know why West was gone and because Ruthie felt so passionately for him, I wanted to know how they met and how long they had known each other, but this could easily be because I'm a romantic so it's not really a problem with your story as much as it just would have been a bonus and really nice to know.
So all in all, this was a fantastic piece and so cute. I would have loved some more back story, but once again that could easily just be personal preference so you can easily just ignore that long tangent. I loved reading this!

This was kind of a sudden idea, the lightning bolt types that strike around midnight, and I typed it out without giving their background too much thought. I wish I had, though, because it feels as if there's so much more behind this little one shot. I'm still happy that you enjoyed it, despite the lack of background, lol :D
